Fans Start Saying their Goodbyes to the NFL as Michael Vick Reinstatement Boycott Begins

image The NFL presented the final straw today as it reinstated Michael Vick.  Throughout the Michael Vick controversy, the league did absolutely nothing to prevent similar actions by its players.  A temporary suspension while he served time in prison was the NFL’s only actions against Michael Vick despite the fact that Vick laid waste to the Atlanta Falcons budget, many NFL sponsors, and the respect of fans around the country.  But today, the NFL commissioner acted in a way that can not be tolerated by NFL fans when he chose to reinstate Michael Vick.

Roger Goodell is basically saying that it is OK to kill dogs, it is ok to run illegal gambling rings, even when people in those rings are murdered, it is OK to lie to the NFL commissioner himself, it is OK for players to lie to their teams, lie to their sponsors and lie to fans of all ages.

Fortunately, fans and sponsors do not have to take marching orders from people as ethically challenged as Roger Goodell and Michael Vick.  We can vote with our wallets, and so many of us will now cast our vote and say good riddance to the NFL all together.

  • I like that idea Karma, Kind of reminiscent to the burning of disco albums when ‘disco died’ back in the early 80′s.

They burned a bunch of albums at a MLB game if I recall correctly. These days burning things would likely be bad, but sending them somewhere could be useful.

The man never hurt a human, not like he took a high powered rifle and blew the brains out of an innocent deer, then stuffed it and placed it in his house as a trophy, now thats cruel. Oh yeah if you have eaten meat you are no better than him, and animal is an animal.

    • tim sanderson:

are you serious. you want to compare a hunter with what vick did with those dogs? you must be on the board of the eagles. this man brutalized innocent animals, broke the law, was convicted of a felony and went to prison. and now he is allowed to rejoin a professional team. does this team not have anything in their contract about morals? i am so going to boycott this team. you may as well let all the felons back in. i am so sick of seeing this crap go on with these guys. just because you are handed millions of dollars to play a game doesn’t give you the right to break the law whenever you feel like it. i will be sure to sit my boys down and tell them everything he did. the nfl needs to grow some balls and take a stand against this crap.

    • amuz3d:

Some people are just too damn dumb to get the big picture.
you michael vick **** suckers should get your heads out of your as*ess

“Oh yeah if you have eaten meat you are no better than him, and animal is an animal.”

Hey, M (for Moron)? Is eating meat a criminal enterprise? No. Michael Vick was involved in a gang-oriented, criminal enterprise that tortured and killed dogs for fun, sport, and profit.

Your comparison is akin to equating buying a lottery ticket with a mobbed up bookmaker who brutalizes and kills those who owe him money. And I’ll take the bookie any day over a piece of garbage like Vick. The Bookie’s customers know the deal up front, pay or you get hurt. Vick’s dogs only knew the pain of the torture he inflicted, never the reason why.

  • Terrence Bolden:

To all the people with your sideways/racist remarks its ok to hate. Everyday in America dogs are killed at shelters, or dog fighting….I don’t know Vick personally, but I lived in Newport News, and dog fighting was all around us, white people, blacks, you name it fight dogs all of the south, and everytime someone is caught guess what happens? They only get a fine!!! DID EVERYONE ON THIS SITE JUST HEAR ME!! A FINE is all you will get…do your research, every white man, or black man who got caught doing what Vick did, got a fine, and only one that I know of got 3 months in jail…so you tell me, because he played in the NFL, and he is Black he is supposed to get all his money taken, and go to jail for almost 2 years??? What if it was Big Ben or Favre, or Brady dog fighting I wonder what you so called self righteous White people would be saying then, I say WHITE people only because every site that talks negative about him the people are white, and some are decendants of KKK, and..well I think you understand lol. I will enjoy the NFL this year, after all, DOG FIGHTING never had anything to do with FOOTBALLL!!!

    • karyn:

boo hoo hoo damn I hate when the friggin race card gets played. Do they hand a deck of 52 race cards to every black citizen when they are born to use when one of their own f**ks up. Oh, it can’t be that they committed an unspeakable crime, its jusr whitie holdin em down.

Stop segregating yourselves… If you want to be equal, stop with the friggin excuses.

    • Kim:

Why does race even come into play? It makes no difference what color he is – dog fighting and animal torture of any kind is disgusting. And yes, even if it was Brett Favre (whom I adore) I would feel the same way.

And lets get real here. Vick didn’t get the “extreme” sentence because the feds cared about dogs. There was that little matter of illegal rackateering and unreported income.

Also, while sentenced to serve 23 months, Vick actually only spent a little over 5 months (Jan 7, 2007 – May 20, 2007) in a Leaventhworth MINIMUM security satellite camp where he played football and contacted his old team owner to let him know what great shape he was staying in. The rest of his time 1 1/2 years (not 23 months) was spent on house arrest.

This isn’t about hating Michael Vick. He says he’s changed and I hope he truly has. However, actions speak louder than words. So far the only thing I’ve seen him do is talk about how much he’s changed with no actions to back that up. Of course during all that so called remorse he has managed to launch a full media effort to polish up his image so he could get back into the NFL.

With so many outstanding athletes (of all colors) why fight for someone who wouldn’t stay clean even when he was given the chance of a lifetime?

  • Terrence Bolden:

One more thing I must add, for all the uneducated people on this site, I am a Black man, and I am married to a white woman lol for sure, and I love her to death for sure. I studied law, and injustice, and some lawyer friends agreed that the book was throwed at Vick to make him a example. If you study the guidelines of sentencing you will see, No one ever got 2 years for Dog fighting. Whenever a black man is involved, things get out of hand anyways. Its just how America is built. Not too long ago I ran a article that stated Racism, has it left America….lol proof of it is around us everyday starting with hate sites such as this one…Only one thing will wipe out racism, read your bible, its call the judgement day, everyman will be judged according to his actions, and if you continue to go through life hating someone because of a color, ask yourself what makes you think GOD can use a person like you in HEAVEN where the angels representined all walks of like!!!

    • Terrence: What a pathetic response to the actions of this barbarian..the race card !! sick/vick derived pleasure from torturing innocent animals..your lack of any understanding of right and wrong is beyond belief. Hopefully the honorable players in the league will provide justice..on the field of honor.
sick/vick does not belong on that field..
      YOU ARE TRULY CLUELESS..

    • Oops, sorry sir. Race doesn’t even enter this conversation. It doesn’t matter if he was lime green. I am American Indian. Wrong is wrong. Right is right. Stop bringing up the “race” thing. You all have played that trump card long enough. Do like the Chickasaw Indians. Stop spending your energies on the same old thing..none of us living have that short a memory. Of course black people were treated unfairly–but so were the American Indians. We moved on to be one of the most productive groups in America today – with positive approaches to solving problems – including health care for our people. If Michael Vick were Chickasaw – he would have lost all his privileges within the tribe – would have been prosecuted according to the laws on the books and be a FELON from now on. Along with being a FELON, you lose certain rights afforded you by our forefathers..the right to vote, the right to hold office, the right to work in the health care industry, or work around children and the list goes on and on…let’s just pretend that Michael Vick was Indian…what excuse would you use then for unspeakable behavior?

  • Rebecca:

    Terrence, i really don’t give a damn.
    Boycott Vick
    http://www.PetitionOnline.com/ridofvic/petition-sign.html?

  • Jon King:

Vick lost his right to ever play in the NFL again. He can go work another non public job. Any NFL team signs him I will boycott all their sponsors for life.

  • benjamin:

to doglover 332 and pissed off……..Michael vick will be back in the nfl on friday? What happened to the boycott? Did you really think an industry that is worth billions of dollars is going to bend to a bunch of animal lovers? LMMFAO! I was NEVER WORRIED ABOUT VICK playing again! NEVER! Like I said money and talent talk, not blog losers. Again, where is the outrage for daunte stallworth? where are the picket signs demanding the nfl ban him for life? where are the angry M.A.D.D. protesters outside the courtroom crying and jeering? My point is proven. You sick cavemen care more about animals, than you do people. No outrage for poor bill romanowski’s wife? The man beat her crosseyed, broke her arm and collarbone, her jaw, all that. TWO TIMES! I’m still waiting for the group of crying white women demanding his jersey. You people make me laugh! I mean really, seriously, did you think a bunch of weak minded animal lovers would affect BIG BUSINESS? Is fur illegal? I still seee dead whales on discovery channel for all the “whale warring” those losers are doing. How many puppy farms are still operating feeding your sick pbsession with treating dogs like people. I bet your dog wears a gay ass bandanna! My dog gets expensive food(canidae), plenty of people food, and goes to one of the most expensive vets in atlanta. BUT HES STILL A GODDAMN DOG!

    • wakeup Benjamin, the protest now includes those players you mentioned, it is on, and last time I checked I didn’t see Michael Vick actually signed, practicing or playing for a team yet.

This is not a new effort, we’ve been at this for over 2 years and have achieved most (admittedly not all) of our goals.

Your dog may still be a dog in your eyes and that’s just fine. I’ve never claimed that dogs were anything other than dogs myself, but that simpleton like argument is hardly the point is it.

Michael Vick screwed his team, screwed his fans, screwed his sponsors, screwed the NFL, screwed his family, screwed his business partners and more. Add to that list that he tortured dogs to death for fun while sponsoring an illegal gambling ring, which included a witness against Michael Vick that was murdered.

Go ahead, make the simple argument that all he did was kill dogs. Make that argument all day and all night long on some loser blog comment thread if you like, but it sure as hell is not going to help Michael Vick get back on the field anytime soon.

Defend him with wife beaters, murderers and any other low life you like, that’s hardly a defense either. Call people names and degrade women all you like too, that sure as hell is not going to help Michael Vick either.

If you seriously want to laugh at us for failing to keep Michael Vick off the field, then you better come up with some better arguments, and something that doesn’t help our efforts and cause with each and every word you type. :)

      Thanks for your comments!

  • tim sanderson:

I am so sick of every time something like this happens it is always the white man bringing down the black man. Did he break the law? yes. The white man did not force him to do this. He did it for the money and the pleasure of torturing animals. If a white man did the same thing I would feel the same way. It has nothing to do with race. I am sick of being told we need to end racism but everytime something happens to a black man the first thing that comes out of their mouth is if they weren’t black they wouldn’t be in prison. How about the fact that you broke the law, white or black, you deserve to be punished. Blacks are just as racists as whites. Take a look at our first lady and president. They said from the start that this was not going to be about race. but every speech they give the only thing they want to talk about is being black. and look at the church they went to for 20 years. and now all of a sudden they don’t agree with it. We’ll see what church he goes back to when he leaves office. Until we ALL can talk about each other as humans instead of black or white, racism will never go away.

  • Squirty Tip:

Where do we find a list of Eagles advertisers? Anyone? Thanks!

  • SUSAN PERINE:

Thanks to a post from Sherrie last night, I have her whole list of Eagles Corporate Sponsors. Find it ALL at: philadelphiaeagles.com/team/corporatepartners.html

I have been writing all night to these guys with a vow to boycott them without exception should they continue to support Vick or the Eagles. I did explain why I felt so strongly about it and have already received many responses. The boycotting of these services and products are the best and really the only tool we have to be effective in this matter.

If this issue is NOT a big deal to some of you who seem to be on this site to argue, that’s OK. But it is a big deal to us and very important. Have some respect. If it is not your thing, fine, or if you have questions about why we feel as we do, OK too. But some of you seem to just want to make remarks to be hurtful. We are trying to gather information that can be useful in our effort or to help others understand the topic a little more. I, for one , don’t want to debate which crimes are worse than others or any of these other fringe details just for the sake of someone poaching for a debate. Arguing is a sport for some and I am all for a good discussion, but right now I read many who are wanting to actually so something about this while we have the chance. If you don’t think it is worth the effort, dont blame us for thinking it is. Just find something you do care about and go for it. Best wishes to everyone!

  • jreal:

you [edit people that have invested your time in a particular cause that I feel to be less than ideal] have no life starting a boycott over bull shit when theres molesters, and drugs ,murderers of humans

  • I cant believe some of you people on here, last time i check a dog was a pet, a pet people, not saying what vick did was right but he has paid his debt, he doesnt owe anyone anything, no one is this world is perfect at all, everyone in this world has did something wrong in there lifetime maybe not to the extent that vick has but you are no better than him, so get on with your lives and take all of the hate you have in vick and put it somewhere it will count, the nfl will have one of its highest ratings this year, wheter you support him or not, take all you hate and help homeless dogs, and other animals being mistreated, or better yet, help the homeless, the boyclubs, women being mistreated, but no that would be to hard, lets worry about a man that has killed dogs, paid his debt, and we still can do anything about it, help the world get better, and if you people think worrying about micheal vick will make the world better, you have some soul searching yourself you need to handle first. There is only one god and he is the ultimate judge, i hate to not see you make it in the promise land because of a football player named micheal vick that killed dogs two years ago. If any of you that what to boycott him was christian, it does say in the bible that you must forgive. But then again you probably not christians anyway, if you were you would not be on here trying to boycott something that you cannot control, let him play, and in the end he will be held responsible for his actions by the highest judge around not you or me, the alpha and omega, (Lord)(God)(Jesus Christ)

the NFL is bullet proof? Remove the tax incentives and government subsidies and the mighty nfl goes plunk. Pete Rozelle (1926-1996), American professional football executive, who was commissioner of the National Football League (NFL) from 1960 to 1989. In the 60s went to congress and low and behold we have what we have today. Keep in mind their are hundreds of millions of people “tax payers” who fund the sewer professional sports has become. Fast FOOD FRANCHISES enough said. Hello America any one home? My favorite quote from Vegas about the rape allegation with Ben Rothlessberger by a casino high mucky muck was “most women would enjoy being raped by big Ben”. VICK is just another symptom of the prevailing mentality. Wake up America you’ve just given millions of $$$$s to a creep. I saw the Giants and Bears play a game for the NFL championship on a cold day in the 50s at Yankee Stadium when i was very young. And do not like what it has become. Don’t buy their products. I am fed up and will no longer support their sewer. by,by

  • Violet Kanda:

I think Michael Vick need to experience same torture he inflicted on innocent pitbulls who lost fight or unwilling to fight to realize exactly how he tortured to death 100 of pitbulls!
    He said he made mistake.
Drowning, beating, burning, electrocuting dogs was mistake?
NO, IT WASNT MISTAKE, HE KNEW EXACTLY WHAT HE WAS DOING AND HE ENJOYED IT.
Strict speaking, yes, all meat eaters are contributing to most horrible farm animal cruelty but many meat eaters are ignorant about sickening factory farming where farm animals are tortured from their birth and brutally slaughtered.

In my opinion, unlike people, animals cannot fight back or protest therefore people who torture and kill anmals deserve same jail sentence as murderer.

Message of Eagles = $$$$$$$$$$ first, animals second??
    I think so.

  • Violet Kanda:

I wanted edit my message but unable to do so because there is no edit button to hit.
I meant to say ‘strictly speaking’.
English is not my native language but second language.

  • RickDELL:

First let’s stay away from the race issue and stick to the facts.
-Mr. Vick was tried for a crime
    - He was convicted and sentenced
    - He served his sentence
Whether we like it or not the case is over, it’s time to move on.
His real trial will come when he goes before GOD an only he knows if he is truly remorseful.
    Now for my opinion:
Why there’s a “lynch mob” out for this guy is beyond me. Yes, what he did to those poor animals was cruel, but they are ‘JUST ANIMALS”. Dante Stallworth killed a “HUMAN” while driving drunk, a man with a family and a future. He got a one year NFL suspension, probation and gave money to the family.
Let’s think about this… There is something seriously wrong here!!!
