Michael Vick Dog Jersey on NFL.com – Another Reason to Sack Goodell
Everyone can agree that Michael Vick is sick, but its becoming increasingly clear that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is either as sick, maybe even more. Michael Vick admitted his guilt to killing dogs with his bare hands, torturing them, running illegal gambling rings bringing more people into a criminal lifestyle and setting and overall terrible example for kids.
Roger Goodell is possibly worse. He’s like the kingpin drug pusher of the NFL enabling violent felons from Christian Peter – sexual assault, Lawrence Phillips – violent domestic abuse, Leonard Little – killed a woman with a car, Jamal Lewis- drugs, Ray Lewis, obstruction of justice in a murder case, Michael Vick, Tank Johnson, Pac-Man Jones, Donte Stallworth, manslaughter, Plaxico Burress almost shot a bar tender, did shoot himself, lied about it.
The NFL needs a rule that prevents people convicted of violent crimes from playing in the league. That’s it, end of story, one strike and you are out permanently. But instead Roger Goodell promotes criminal behavior by not providing any substantive penalty. Kill some dogs, kill a person, ‘OK well you are going to miss a few games, but we’ll let you come back and make millions of dollars after you sit on the bench for a while.’
That’s the problem with Roger Goodell, he thinks that benching a player and then providing them a financial reward after benching them for committing a violent crime is going to do anything to prevent other players from engaging in violent behavior. That’s not a deterrent. Its almost a reward!
But of course, that is not enough for Roger Goodell, he not only wants to provide financial rewards for criminal behavior, he wants to make a buck off of it, while laughing at the victims. Below you can see what the NFL is offering on their website today (August 21, 2009) after Michael Vick was convicted of dog fighting, after Roger Goodell allowed him back into the NFL, after The Eagles hired Michael Vick for $6.8 million. The NFL.com is selling Jerseys on their website with Michael Vick’s name on it FOR DOGS!
What’s next Roger Goodell? Are you going to sell NFL bumper stickers saying, “NFL Players don’t brake for people in intersections” or sell thongs to rape victims with an NFL logo above the words saying “You were just asking for it” or will the NFL sell brass knuckles online with the engraving, “Women Don’t Back Talk NFL Players!”
Seriously, Roger Goodell, you are sick and twisted and part of the problem. If you can’t take charge of the NFL and turn it into a decent place again, your time is long over due to leave.

stop showing lies to people. the jerseys for dogs are customizable. You can write whatever name you want on the dog jerseys. You are such a minority that you have to be lying? What next your going to say michael vick is killing all his teammates’ dogs?
You can’t put any name on them, the NFL forbids using “Ron Mexico” which was one of Vick’s aliases or “Bad Newz,” the name of his dogfighting operation.
For years the NFL also stopped people from getting jerseys with the name Gay even though there were players in the league with that name
At the time I wrote this article, you COULD put Vick’s name on Dog’s jerseys the LA Times wrote about this first, my article links to theirs.
You should be embarrassed. As i mentioned earlier, I understand that you have a certain ppoint of view and are entitled to it but you are a liar.
not only do you have no clue what you are writing about but you flat out lie.
You used leonard Little as an example of Goodell “being twisted” You know full well Goodell was not the commissioner then, same with lawrence Phillips, same with Ray Lewis, same with jamall Lewis. You are counting on the you followers being even more ignorant than yourself to help you turn them to a frenzy.
Writing things like “he only wants to make a buck off of it while laughing at the victims” is tragic because you then turn the corner and become everything that is wrong with radicals, they are so blinded by emotion and hate for other people that they lie, fabricate, twist, and all for your own gain. You are a low life.
If you knew what you were writing about, or more, likely, did not lie about what you were writing about, you would know that Goodell cannot refuse people the right to work. I respect you for your stand on this issue but only lowlifes lie and twist facts to fit their agenda.
Thanks for your perspective Rich, as always I do value your replies. Goodell may not have been the commissioner at the time, but he continues to allow the same policies. He may not like violent felons in the NFL, however by his own inactions (some cases) and actions (in others) he is keeping them in the NFL.
I’m not ashamed at all. Roger Goodell is the one that should be ashamed of his actions. I’m not the one promoting violent felonious actions by my employees, and then bundling that up, marketing to fans, customers and sponsors as heroes on any given Sunday.
He may not have started it, but he has the power to end the practice, by failing to do so he is no better than the people that came before him.
DL
Goodell does not that the ability to stop it either. Vick, like all NFL players, is in a union. Goodell cannot just look at him and tell him he can never play again. It is literally impossible for him to do. and the teams cannot collude to keep him out either or the NFl will be sitting in front of the real bad guys in Congress and will be challenged on their anti trust exemption.
i apologize if i come across insulting to you. I feel very strongly that if you are lying about facts or more specicifally you are overlooking facts because those who follow you do not know any better, than you are going about as low as you can go.
to prove to you that I believe it should be above board I will tell you this. Do your homework. there is a loophole Vick has tripped over, you push this issue to the right people and he will be out on his ass. I am not going to tell you what it is but if you research enough you will find it.
You do not come off as providing insult, but I think your tact to repeatedly use the word ‘lies’ where there are none is kind of cute.
Roger Goodell had the power to permanently suspend Michael Vick and any or all violent felons in the NFL.
Instead Roger Goodell chose an indefinite suspension in 2007.
Then a month ago Roger Goodell chose to remove that indefinite suspension.
He most certainly did have the power to either a) permanently suspend Michael Vick and/or b) Never reinstate Michael Vick
Instead Roger Goodell chose to reinstate Michael Vick, which is why we have been calling for his removal from the NFL for several weeks now.
Even if the unions had fought a permanent suspension in 2007 (unlikely) or now (higher possibility) the NFL would be in a much better position, than it is now as the defenders of violent criminals as heroes.
Vick is lower dirt. He’s doesn’t deserve the air he breathes. Tom maybe step into a pit and see what’s it’s like to fight for your life. Trust me you wouldn’t make it.
yea maybe i wouldn’t make it. What does that have to do with michael vick’s jersey? maybe you should go to a pit and fight, you could make it.
If you are the real Tom Arnold from best damn sports or whatever, who cares about what you think, you are a drunk and a coke fiend.
I saw Michael Vicks interview on 60 minutes or 20/20 whatever it was, he said his main concern was not about football, but about making up for what he had done. If his main concern is not his football career, then let his career be over. He is a disgrace. I own 2 pit bulls and a beagle as well. To use beagles as bait dogs because they don’t fight back is outrageous to me.
I will only support Michael Vicks reinstatement to the NFL if he agrees to be beaten, electrocuted, drowned, or choked every time he drops the ball or screws up a play.
Shame on you NFL! Shame on you Eagles! One of my favorite teams, but I will not support you with my cheers and certainly not with my money until you kick that son of a bitch off your team!
if you thought i was the famous tom arnold then i assume your IQ is similar to that of a kid with down syndrome. And FYI my friend NO ONE cares what you think so what is the point of you even posting on here. lol get back to your kindergarden class you nimrod.
probably
since you guys have been on the nflshop site you have noticed that mike vick’s jersey is already a top seller? Way to help the economy vick!
Yeah wasting money on a scum bags branded jersey really helps move us out of a recession and a $9 trillion deficit over the next 9 years. Michael Vick just single handedly (presumably because the other hand is being restrained from more brutal activities with dogs) saved the economy and put people back to work.
Yeah right.
I don’t see the NFL announcing 10,000 new jobs for ex-felons that need a second chance to be paid for with National Felon League clothing.
man I said help not save. I thought you guys could read. I wonder if you graduated high school?
Oh, yeah, big difference there. He’s been a real big help to the economy. Not saving anything yet, but a real big help. The Eagles probably added half a head count to respond to press inquiries as to why the Eagles had gone crazy.
Big Big ‘help’.
why are you only mad at the eagles? the bengals were the first team to offer him and for more money.
The difference between closing a deal and throwing out an offer is pretty big. We’re not exactly mad at the Eagles, but we do want to see them correct their serious mistake.
serious mistake? i dont see the world ending because of michael vick. i don’t see many serious problems because michael vick plays with the eagles.
4 parts very stupid, 1 part serious
also goodell started in 2006, taylor and lewis have nothing to do with him. And to be honest goodell has been the strictest commissioner the nfl has ever had. he suspends people like crazy. if goodell was sacked people like stallworth and vick would never get suspended.
No point in continuing bad policies regardless.
No ppoint in lying and not doing ANY homework on the issue but that does not stop you.
the simplistic thinking is common across the line with you radicals, no mention of the dact that goodell was not the commissioner for any of the examples you cited, no mention that the head of the NFLPA is at odds against Goodell because he is sto strict, etc etc
Th irony is that becuase you lie and do not do any research on any of these issue, your minions go into the fight ill-informed and when they come into contact with sponsirs etc, those they will want to influence will see them for the liars they are and ignore them.
If you are going to pursue your agenda you need to do it above board, or look like a fool who no one will listen to. So basically for every guy like me who hopes you guys fail, you are doing our work for us. keep it up.
lets see, who was the NFL commissioner for the last month, you know the one that let Michael Vick for example back in the NFL . . . . who was that, let me try and remember that far back . . . . .
Oh yeah it was Roger Goodell!
OK, let me try for a radical bonus round, who has not instituted a policy preventing violent felons from playing in the NFL, an organization that spends ridiculous amounts of marketing dollars promoting its players as heroes and role models to kids and people around the US, who was it that decided to go ahead and continue to allow violent felons into this marketed group of heroes (not saying they are my heroes, not saying they should be heroes, but I am saying the NFL markets them that way) so who was that guy, the one that is well you know ‘in charge’ of the NFL,
. . . .
Oh Yeah Roger Goodell!
Wish it was easier to keep these facts straight.
Having Vics name on the jersey thats being advertiesed regardless of if you can custumie ir or not is yet antoher slap in the face from Goddell and vic to us pet lovers and to the dogs. Dont you know when someoneones face or name is being shown that person gets paid. So we just paid vic by clicking on a sight that would show this. I just paid vic, thats low even for Goddell and the shirts are just the straw that broke the cammels back, Godell has made so manny bad deceissings and played God so often and NOT listend to fans so often, its just time for him to be replaced, than both nfl fans and animal lovers would be happy and esp those who love both, they would not have to choose. Right now you cant love dogs and not e the enemy of the nfl and vs.With Goddll we have to take sites and be in anther civil war but it wont be civil.Withou Godell we can be a great american nation and take care of our best friend, our dog and stil lwatch the all american sport without compromising our morals,Goddell had got to go and we can all live in peace and enojoy all of americas goodness.
“Yeah wasting money on a scum bags branded jersey really helps move us out of a recession and a $9 trillion deficit over the next 9 years”—lol
Good article.
PG rated:
There once were some minions of Vick’s
Who followed and kissed him like ticks
By him they did stand
Like good groupies-at-hand
Too simple to see he is sick.
Their jerseys to games they did best
With Vick’s name inscribed on the chest
They proclaimed they don’t care
While losing their hair
Growing dimmer, and fatter, at rest
The Eagles, too bad, had no smarts
Even Vick, the guy got by barks
How the minions did cry
While yet bullies–(not wry)
But their hero, alas, had no heart
if you guys really make a website on a guy who doesn’t affect you life in any way and think your fighting for a “cause” then your not only pathetic and living meaningless lives but maybe need to go see a doctor. I could careless about vick he doesn’t affect me but to make a website? lol some people have lonely lives….
Hey Tom, I made the site because I do believe that what Michael Vick did has an impact on my life and the people around me.
Separately, I’d encourage you to click on your own name above the comment you just wrote.
Guess what?
You just made a website yourself, when you left that comment.
You may disagree with our cause, but your support of SackVick.net is definitely appreciated.
Michael Vick playing in the NFL or being a used car salesman doesn’t affect you. If you truly believe that something is wrong with you. I believe michael vick is a horrible person and probably should still be in jail and not have been back in NFL so quickly. But he is and there is no way you can change that. Currently michael vick is an nfl player i dont think that affects you. He is being closely monitored so he can’t hurt another dog. If you think he is commiting a crime then call the police. You seem like a 10 year old with all the flaws this website has as well as your lack of knowledge of the NFL. Hope you find a hobby because thinking your fighting for a “cause” is pathetic and crazy.
BTW your website joke also makes me think your 10 years old.
We don’t correct the man we hang, Tommy,…we teach others!
Gotta go,…mommy’s callin’…..;-))
FORGET?…NEVER!
SACK VICK!
Thanks for arguing with a 10 year old Tom, we’ll be here when you come back for the bonus round. As this website is over 2 years old now, don’t you think I did pretty good with it, since I was 8 when I started it?
You freaks need to get ourselves. Vick deserves a second chance and is here to stay. I will wear my #7 jersey proudly.
This is not Vick’s SECOND chance. That is a ‘euphamism’ that he wants to use to make it seem like he has NEVER made one mistake! LOL. it is likely his 45th, 49th, 102nd or 255th mistake. He did not JUST become a FELON. He got there through years and years of practice. Look at the other charges: gambling, lying to the FBI, killing, electrocuting, lying to an employer, cross-state illegal transporation of animals, conspiracy. Nobody can make one FIRST HUGE mistake like that. it takes lots and lots and years of practice to get THAT good. People who fall for the second chance argument are only supporting vick because they also have criminal or sinful histories and want to be absolved of their guilt through Vick.
No-one is error free, but let’s get real. this is not his SECOND chance and not about you.
Michael Vick’s 2,191st Chance
EXCELLENT POINT! Michael Vick made the choices to fight and kill dogs every day for 6 years after he signed his NFL and sponsorship deals with major corporations. 6 years x 365 days is 2,190 chances at a minimum.
That’s such a great point, I really wish I had thought of it. Green with envy, but very glad we are on the same side! :0
Hey Rick, I apologize that our site doesn’t have an edit comments function yet (been working on that in a testing environment). I know how difficult it is in when you feel strongly about something, try to type it up and things get twisted the wrong way.
Happens to me all the time.
Regardless, I think it is regrettable that you want support a person as severely flawed as Michael Vick by wasting money on one of his Jersey’s. The guy pocketed millions of dollars in cash before filing bankruptcy and screwing over his business partners, his former team and the NFL. Even if you don’t care about dogs, a guy that would screw over his friends like that is pretty low, and to put money in his pocket so he can screw more people over again seems to be a mistake, those jerseys might as well be made out of wool for all the blindness it seems to cause in people that pull them over their eyes.
I bought a Vick T-shirt the other day. It says: MY DOG HATES VICK. I hate that SOB. Not only is a sociopath, he perpetuated the myth that pit bulls are cold hearted, ruthless killers while in reality they are gentle and loving creatures that have to be tortured into fighting. He never made full restititution to the surviving dogs either. I thought it was the National Football league not the National Felon League. Remember the real victims. Chico, Too Short, Jane, Tiny, Maniac, Zebro. Cleo.
If you have a link for the place that sold the michael vick t-shirt, please share. I’m good w websites, but suck pretty much when it comes to t-shirts.
I don’t mind helping promote/cross promote the fruits of everyone else’s labors in common cause.
it is cafepress.com. just type in Vick. There are about a hundred pages of T- shirts. I love this website too. Vicktory to the Underdog.http://atlantapitbullrescue.com/ It is organization trying to exact positive change.
zazzle.com has a good selection of anti-Vick T-shirts including “Hey, Michael, how would you like to be hung, electrocuted or drowned for not performing well enough”
http://www.zazzle.com/anti+vick+tshirts
I like Zazzles shirts a lot better than cafepress, prices seem to be about the same, but its easier to see what you are potentially looking at on Zazzle from what I can tell.
WHY do you keep responding to “rich”??? The more attention you give him, the more he will come back with NEGATIVE remarks. Just IGNORE his posts, and eventually, like all nasty things, they go away and find another rock to climb under.
It truly is not worth even answering this kind of smut. This is get rid of that other “under the rock” person. He sought out this site, so obviously he wants attention to his NEGATIVE remarks. NOT WORTH THE BANDWIDTH answering him.
Hey Sandy,
You may notice that from time to time I thank people that leave comments even when I completely disagree with the comments or when the comments are silly or banal.
A while back I realized (from reviewing trends on the sites) that using a couple great tools I can utilize comments like Rich’s to attract more people to the site and then have the opportunity of convincing them to either understand our cause or join in at some level.
You see, if you click on Rich’s name above, say on the comment where he says there is “no ppoint in lying” etc. you will be taken to a separate page at
http://www.sackvick.net/2009/08/22/michael-vick-dog-jersey-on-nfl-com-another-reason-to-sack-goodell/?cid=1769
His comment has created a fresh new page on our website and that web page is indexed by Google (because Google loves us to death) (actually its because I really know what I’m doing when it comes to blogs and google).
If you just happened to be a person that had never visited our site before and for some odd reason you did a keyword search on “no ppoint in lying” The page with Rich’s comment comes up in the first position of Google!
Now we get thousands of comments here on this site and through this design, each comment becomes its own web page and its own potential baited hook on the internet to pull people into our site and get some more attention.
Now in Rich’s case, its not the best hook, but a hook none-the-less. When people come to the site, they see his comment initially, a summary of some of his other recent comments and then the replies to his comment (including my own countering or dismissing his arguments).
So Rich helps bring people to SackVick.net! (Thanks Rich!) and by giving Rich the courtesy of responding to his free internet advertising for SackVick, those of us that respond start to provide the arguments to convince people to our perspective and maybe even our cause.
There are other beneficial things about Rich’s comments that help the site bring more people in as well, but that is the major benefit right there.
So when you see me thanking people for leaving comments, even when they are really really dumb, stupid, moronic, repulsive, etc. Those comments are helping in their own minute ‘long tail’ kind of way.
In essence through some great web work, I have turned some of our most vocal critics into authors for our site and our cause!
Gallileo hundreds of years back wrote dialogues to essentially argue the cause of science versus that of the church. To do that he had to argue the church’s perspective so completely and effectively that he would not be labeled a heretic and subjected to the inquisition. It is extremely hard to argue someone else’s point of view from every single angle when you don’t believe in that view.
Gallileo did a great job, but even he ultimately spent some time in jail.
I could attempt to have my own dialogue with a fictional Rich type of perspective, but more heads are better than one. Rich can brainstorm all day and all night on ideas that seem absurd and bore the hell out of me, but when he does it, it gives me some fuel for the fire and then I can do some rhetorical judo and the site and cause benefits all the more.
Don’t you just love the power of the internet sometimes!
The number of pages and hits matters very little. There is not one Eagles/NFL sponsor that will be checking the number of hits your website receives. They will care less that the software you are using links to a separate page via link from the user name. It matters none. And please save the BS about how you know how to master google. Those of us with more than a passing familiarity with Google know that you do not have any leverage to link your website.
The bottom line is that though some of your followers here think that what you write it true, I know it is not. if you were the finance major you claimed you were in another thread you would know that your impact to the bottom line of any and all sponsors will be negligable which is why you are all but ignored by them, save for some form letters/e-mails.
Its not about the sponsors or eagles checking hits or pages, its about eye balls from other people finding our site through thousands of open doors.
In 2007 Roger Goodell introduced what the NFL described as a new personal conduct policy to control off-field behavior by its players and “preserve” the league’s public image.
Enough arguing about why Vick shouldn’t play while other felons such as Ray Lewis and Leonard Little are permitted to and whether it’s worse to torture and murder dogs than to kill a person while driving under the influence.
The obvious answer is that every player convicted of a felony, particularly a violent one, be banned from the league for life.
Players in the NFL are paid huge salaries and admired by millions of people. It’s not too much to ask that in exchange their behavior on and off the field be held to a higher standard.
I completely agree Max. Michael Vick is an example of the manifestation of the problems in the NFL (maybe society a little bit as well).
Fix the NFL, and the debate about Michael Vick ends. The debate over dog fighting and how to stop it will continue, but if the NFL gets fixed following Michael Vick’s conviction for dog fighting, the efforts to end dog fighting will have a nice big example that everyone will remember.
###Michael Vick is an example of the manifestation of the problems in the NFL (maybe society a little bit as well).
Did you really write that? The thought process is astounding. You think that Vick is the manifestation of what is wrong with the NFL and MAYBE society?
Yet you do not (read: will not), accept that the culture in which he came accepted dog fighting? Further you do not see that it is a societal problem creeping into the NFL but rather and NFL issue that MAYBE creeps into society.
wow. that is all I can say. wow.
I do accept the culture that he came out of, but I also accept and expect that people can rise above the culture that created them. It is ignorant and racist to state or think that Michael Vick can not rise above the culture that he came out of just because he is African American and was raised in a neighborhood with a large African American population.
Were the odds against him and many others due to their socioeconomic situation, violence, gangs, drugs etc. Yes.
Did Michael Vick receive every advantage that most of the people he grew up with did not in the form of support and later money? Very much so.
This relates to problems manifesting elsewhere in the NFL and in society, because people rely on crutches and excuses like these and fail to take responsibility for their actions, fail to stop bad things from happening (dog fighting rings, Abu Grahib, ponzi schemes, etc) These are all symptoms of a similar problem.
###It is ignorant and racist to state or think that Michael Vick can not rise above the culture that he came out of just because he is African American and was raised in a neighborhood with a large African American population.
Nice try.
It is not racist nor ignorant to state that Vick could not rise above illegal activities that were an accepted part of the culture in Newport News. The proof is in the fact that he still participated when he got out of there. The ignorance is on your end when you cannot realize that someone who has gone to dog fights since he was eight is not capable of getting the distance from it to see it for what it is.
So we disagree there. I think it IS racist. In this we disagree.
I do NOT think that dog fighting is only an African American cultural phenomena and I do NOT think Michael Vick was unable to leave dog fighting behind because his African American raising and environment prevented him from learning right from wrong.
I think that is a severe flaw in your reasoning.
Again, nice try.
There is not any flaw in my reasoning. I never wrote once that it is an African American issue. As most issues in the inner city or poor rural areas it is a sociao-economic issue. YOu might note that I wrote “illegal activities that were an accepted part of the culture in Newport News” Now where in that sentence or anywhere in my post do i write “African American”? Exactly, I never pointed to race.
You are one twisted people hater. You introduce race into an issue and then point to me as the racist, hahaha. It is symptomatic of your weak reasoning skills and yet another example why, save for getting about a dozen housewives from the midwest up in arms, your cause will fail.
If your view is not racist, then why do you state that Michael Vick was unable to rise above his socioeconomic circumstances?
He had a great deal of money, so it could not have been a money issue.
Based on your responses on this thread, I do feel that you have made a racist claim when you say that he is unable to rise above his criminal activities.
So why do you feel Michael Vick was unable to stop himself from killing dogs for six years straight after he had amassed a fortune. What in his upbringing caused him to have such a serious character flaw?
You indicate that it was normal for him to do this because of where he grew up. So what is your excuse for Michael Vick’s actions?
As you probably already know, I do not fault Michael Vick’s parents nor the community that he grew up in. I do not believe he killed dogs because he was African American.
I fault Michael Vick, which is part of the reason why I think he should be removed from the NFL.
I get the feeling that you are just talking in circles grasping at straws again. I can appreciate your poor position in this argument because the subject you are trying to defend is so morally bankrupt, that there really is no defense.
I think you may have to boycott my sponsors and me as well as I have added M. Vick to my Fantasy Football Team.
If the Eagles have a great season, your cause is lost. Nothing speeds the forgiveness process faster than winning.
Do you run an anti-dogfighting site? Why not try to go about making positive change instead of wasting your time going after a released con?
This site is hilarious!
Hey Football Bob, thanks for stopping by and helping us with our cause. Every comment & comment reply helps us to get violent felons removed from the NFL and raise awareness about ending the practice of dog fighting and the misguided notion that it is socially acceptable.
You may disagree with part of our cause but your participation goes a long long way towards helping us achieve our goal.
every comment reply doesn’t help get felons removed from the NFL stop lying to yourselves. The fact that you guys think your fighting for a “cause” proves you guys aren’t that bright.
Keep thinking that way tom and you will continue to help us.
Can’t say I wasn’t being transparent.
Some people just can’t believe their own eyes, maybe that’s a common quality among Michael Vick supporters. ….. ?
“The obvious answer is that every player convicted of a felony, particularly a violent one, be banned from the league for life.”
Spot on, Max. To what level will we permit our sports leagues to degenerate? Violent thugs are playing in almost every major sport, cheered on by impressionable children, and looked upon as role models and heroes. It is time to take a stand, and kick those who commit acts of violence or other crimes, out of the business of sports. I don’t have a problem with a player who has a little trouble with drugs, or gets a DUI getting a second chance to play. When it comes to major felony crimes, or violence, let’s send these guys to work in the real world. The commissioner would only have to do it once or twice before the rest of the players would get the message. To watch a fellow athlete have to wake up early, punch a time clock, drive a beater instead of a Bentley, wear a Timex instead of a Rolex, work all year around without vacations at 5 star resorts, and wear a nametag instead of a jersey would scare them straight. It would probably save some lives, too.
I’m guessing none of you people have high standing in any intellectual or academic circles. Strict intolerance of individuals regardless of their past missteps is often the calling card of the ignorant and uneducated. You guys are America’s version of the Taliban.
I’m the creator of the site, which I launched back in 2007 when Michael Vick was still lying to everyone telling everyone that he didn’t know anything about the dog fighting, illegal gambling rings, and killing of animals with his own hands.
Not that it matters one bit in the grand scheme of things, but I happen to have a double major and a masters in law.
Regardless, you do not need to be terribly educated to understand that putting violent criminals on a pedestal and then marketing them around the country to kids as heroes is going to be a bad thing for society.
I refute your accusation that we are like the taliban, but I understand the nature of your challenge and verbal attack. Absent any real examples, dialogue, proof etc you devolve into name calling.
For the record I am completely for freedom of speech and freedom of religion. I am not religious myself, but have served to protect those freedoms for others.
In general we are not intolerant of Michael Vick as a person, we however do not want him placed back into a position where he can continue to harm our society. We similarly do not want to see any other convicted violent felons put on a similar pedestal and marketed by the NFL using money it generates from fans.
Fans should not have to sponsor felons to be marketed as heroes. We are simply exercising our view in this matter by boycotting the NFL, The Eagles and sponsors that support those groups.
Different people that visit our site may choose to exercise their own means of boycott in their own way. This site is a mouth piece but not the organization behind anyone group.
DogLover, I am impressed with your response to my comment meant to bait your more ignorant users into verbal confrontation. However, I am interested in why you seem so invested in maintaining and promoting this site, which seems to attract a great deal of people with very limited views on the world.
Several reasons, to truly understand them you would need to read the 2 years of articles on this site which have covered my motives very thoroughly.
However to summarize, I’m a student of history and a former US soldier. I started this site because at the time I was an Atlanta Falcons fan and a fan of Michael Vick. I am also, as the name implies a dog lover. I have three dogs currently all rescued from shelters.
Michael Vick’s actions were terrible on many levels. In the early days it looked like he was going to lie his way out of the situation and justice would not be served. One witness was murdered and the early press releases seemed to indicate that the three others (primary) might cover for Michael Vick.
Ultimately that did not happen and Michael Vick went to jail, but that was after we started and ran this site for several months working to increase awareness and get attention about this cause.
Michael Vick’s actions were not just a personal choice to torture dogs, his personal property. They were a betrayal against fans, sponsors, his team, his community and more. That betrayal alone should have been enough to ban him from the NFL.
However, he was not banned or permanently suspended. For a year or two we expected that he would likely be in limbo not knowing if he would return or not as Roger Goodell ultimately did nothing.
Honestly, I did not expect that Roger Goodell would let him back into the NFL a week or two after he got out of prison.
I thought some desperate team might pick him up, but the Eagles never seemed that desperate and actually had a (relatively speaking for the NFL) decent reputation for holding their players to a higher moral standard.
When he was picked, many of the people that were the most vocal about allowing Michael Vick to play again started to debate the issue as if it related to Michael Vick’s race.
Having served in the military for and with people of all races, I know first hand that race doesn’t matter when it comes down to what people can or can not do. I’ve seen equality in action in a social microcosm and definitely believe in it and promote it. I’ve fought against red lining in real estate in Florida, fought against whack jobs under Matt Hale in the World Church in Illinois.
As I see it, Michael Vick’s case has nothing to do with race and everything to do with very poor personal choices (if you want elaboration on this one, then I refer you to any other article or comment I’ve written).
I am engaged in other causes, most of which are of a much more ‘important’ nature focused on the economy, wars abroad, and more.
I am able to multi-task and invest my time in many important ventures. I do see this as important. As a society if we fail to hold people responsible, I believe we will fail.
Some people say that Michael Vick served his time and paid his debt to society.
I feel that this is a complete load of crap.
Michael Vick served time in jail, paid for by tax payers. If anything he served out his punishment under the law, but in serving out a punishment you are not paying of a societal debt.
Michael Vick went into societal debt by helping to destroy the lives of the people involved in his illegal gambling and dog fighting rings. He has done nothing to pay that debt.
Michael Vick went bankrupt on his monetary debt with business partners and banks (after withdrawing close to $3m in cash by the way). He has not paid this debt.
Michael Vick went into societal debt with his fans, as I mentioned before by hijacking our support and fan money paid to the NFL and its sponsors and using that money to do all of the bad things I just mentioned. Michael Vick has not paid this debt.
Now, I do note that there is a severe racial inequity in this country, especially as it relates to the number of African American men locked up in prison, serving sentences that are disproportionate to those of other criminals. Society has a most definite problem in trying to help these men return to society and start a new life free of crime. Some people refer to this as giving them a second chance.
They then lump Michael Vick into this category as he happens to be African American and say that he should have a second chance and to fail to give him one is racist against Michael Vick and by extension all African American men.
Frankly, that argument is also a load of crap. Michael Vick had thousands of second chances for years and years and he was too sick and twisted to seize them and start doing the right thing. That is not societies fault and it sure doesn’t make society racist when we fail to give him a new golden ticket to the top again.
He had every opportunity that the majority of African American men never ever have, and through institutions like the NFL are almost forced to dream about.
I say let him go make his own way in any other job or profession that he is legally allowed to work and let his 2100th chance be given to some deserving kid out of college that isn’t a violent criminal.
For that matter, take the $6.8 million dollars that was given to Michael Vick and use that to give real second chances to help other ex-felons make something of their life after they get out of prison.
Putting good money after bad with Michael Vick is just going to put society into more debt.
You’d be guessing wrong, “Voice of Reason”. Opposition to the reinstatement of Michael Vick comes from people of all educational and economic levels. Would you describe a doctor having his license taken away or a lawyer being disbarred for committing felonies as strict intolerance of individuals regardless of past missteps (“misstep: an instance of wrong or improper conduct, a blunder, is hardly how I would describe a man who every week fought, tortured and killed dogs as a release from the stress he felt in the NFL).
People who object to turning a blind eye to the crimes of someone just because he can play football are not the ones who are like the Taliban. In fact, you may have much more in common with radical Islamists than with most Americans since many Muslim sects prohibit having dogs unless they are used for guarding, herding as guards and consider them unclean.
On another note, are any of you actually staying true to your promise to boycott the NFL? Or are you all just “liar”(s) like Vick?
Interesting that you would agree with us that Michael Vick is a liar.
Have you made it a life long practice of supporting and defending liars?
I personally have not purchased anything from any of the sponsors behind The Eagles.
We are still gathering information to help us identify the sponsors behind the NFL. That is a much bigger list.
In general, in this economy it is pretty easy to boycott. Just save your money instead of spending it on these sponsors. Their choice to sponsor or continue sponsoring Michael Vick and other violent criminals may prove to be de-stimulating for their own individual business cycles. Even if it only proves to be a blip in their Profit and Loss statement, we can rest our own conscience knowing that we did not support the man you call a liar nor other violent felons in the NFL.
If he must play the loser needs to forefit hie pay and give it to any animal rights org. that wants it!
I’d prefer to not see him play, but I find it interesting that he has not made a pledge yet.
Maybe its the bankruptcy courts locking up his earnings, maybe he hasn’t found the right animal rights organization to buy off yet, maybe he just doesn’t really care about anyone but himself, which was his modus operandi for many many years….
Sometimes you think the world has gone mad, then you see the NFL selling Mike Vick dog jerseys and you know so! Some seem to think everyone who isn’t cheering Mike Vick on is an animal rights activist. Did those people stop to think maybe some protest because they are against torture and abuse in any shape or form? They are blind to the fact that it wasn’t just the animals were killed, but that they suffered such agony and Mike Vick enjoyed their cries, their pain and implementing this torture. As a victim and survivor of rape, I also fail to see the humor Vick saw when naming his force breeding contraption “The Rape stand.” What a slap in the face to survivors of sexual abuse! What Vick has done has affected peoples lives. As many others, I was shaken to the core when his death camp was uncovered. I cried many a tear and lost sleep, because Mike Vick affected my life. Seeing his interview and his reinstatement brought more tears and lost sleep. I’m sure the rescuers and animal control officers who had to go in and pick up the pieces were “affected”. I’m sure what they saw and had to deal with will affect their lives forever! I know they would disagree if told their lives were not affected and that they really didn’t have nightmares. Evil, injustice, torture, abuse and cruelty affect my life, just as surely as it affects the lives of those who suffer from it.
Hi, Therese.
Now I’m teary-eyed having read your eleoquent post.
Sending you a hug!!
Lisa H my friend, how are you?
Did you really get teary eyed reading that post or was it the onion you were peeling for tonight’s supper? hardy har har.
enjoy your day.
Beautifully stated, Therese!
you had tears and lost sleep because of michael vick returning to the NFL??? You should see a therapist or something because that is stupid.
You do realize the Vick issue created an outlet for your mind to release its rage over being raped right?
It is quite common, (and healthy), to find that outlet after a traumatic experience regardless of the issue. don’t get hung up on the outcome because you guys will have no real effect on anything but use this cause as your cartharsis, you will be the better for it.
PS vick did not name it a rape stand, it is known as a rape stand
Somehow I think the clarification about Vick’s Rape Stand does not help Michael Vick look any better. In fact, its just one more example of Michael Vick spending money sourced from the NFL and sponsors from fans.
Fans should not tolerate having their money go towards buying rape stands for Michael Vick or anyone else.
See them cheer for Mike Vick!
See Mike vick Run!
See Mike Vick catch a ball!
See how Mike Vick ripped out Georgia’s teeth!
See, Georgia will never catch a ball!
See? Oh yes I do, and I’ll save my cheers
for Georgia!
You people have a serious problem! Who gave you self righteous bastards the right to persecute a man who has clearly paid a price MUCH more severe than necessary? If he were Joe Blow he would have been fined and sentenced to community service.
What in the hell makes you feel you have the right to change the hiring practice of a multi-billion dollar business with one of the strongest unions this country has ever seen? Who the hell are you?
Goodell does not have the right to permanently suspend Vick or any other player unless they do something which directly affects the game, such as Pete Rose betting on the games that he coached. I know you al hate to hear it, but that’s the way it works. To do so would open the league up to an easy lawsuit. It’s called anti-collusion.
The more I read the comments on this site, I realize there are more Vick supporters on here than protestors. The sales numbers of Vick Jersey’s testify to his popularity. Hey you don’t want this guy to be your kids’ role model? Then how about you step up, be a real parent, and stop allowing your kids to find all role models by sitting in front of the TV.
This article was completely ridiculous! How the hell can you be mad because a website allows you to customize a jersey and put a name on it that you don’t like? Are you serious? C’mon! Really? I just can’t believe some of the things you people write! The fact that there are people as simple minded as you is the same reason we have so much drama in this world today! Maybe you all need some of what Vick (and half the rest of the country) was smokin!
This isn’t a persecution, we are simply exercising our right to not support the NFL, the Eagles, or any sponsor that supports the NFL or the Eagles.
I’m not sure what you are smokin but the last time I checked there was nothing in the constitution that said we had to buy anything from the NFL, the Eagles or their sponsors.
That goes double when they hire violent felons and then market the hell out of them as heroes.
You can keep on thinking that there are a lot of Vick supporters our there. You would be wrong.
There are a lot of people out there that do believe that ex-felons deserve a second chance, but there are not that many people that want to support Vick in any other way.
You sir, are living in a fantasy world! I am not saying by any means that you have some sort of obligation to buy anything from the NFL, I’m pretty sure they do alright without your small mob, but rather asking why you are chastising them for marketing their league? So because there are some players in the league you don’t necessarily believe should be there, you think the league should stop marketing themselves? Really? This is a business, and their sole job is to make money. You know when my husband began writing on this site last week, I thought he just being silly when talking about some of the comments you people make. Now I see, you all really are crazy! To say that there are not that many Vick supporters out there? Do polls, surveys and jersey sales count for anything? Not only does the average fan support Vick, but he has the backing of MOST of the players in the league as well. My husband still keeps in regular contact with most of his former teammates, and from all conversations, everyone’s main concern was why Goodell even suspended him at all. That is a fact. You are in the minority. I dont say that to down you, but more so in hopes that you realize realistically where you and your cause stands. And then to bring out his brother on here? You all are low! Is there nothing you all won’t do? You are no better than the man Vick was two years ago!
Also I see you made no mention to the fact that Roger Goodell legally doesn’t really have a leg to stand on in suspending a player for life for an action such as this… I advise you to take a look at the CBA, and if you already have, read it again. You have obviously no clue as to how it works in this business.
The fact is, that most of you are just jealous that he is able to make so much money when you are stuck in a rat race. Misery loves company. Most of the remaining are animal freaks who dress your dogs and boycott eating meat. The few left over are idealists who have no grasp on the reality of the world we live in.
Michael Vick is still a hero and if he keeps to the straight and narrow, worthy of being called a role model. Why do I say this? Because despite the things you see that he has done wrong, he is a first generation college graduate, from an area where you are lucky to finish high school. Yes OBVIOUSLY he has made some tremendous errors along the way, but that does not negate the positive things that he has done. And if he is able to keep to the path which so many have put faith and stock into, he can become the most inspirational come back story of all time. A man who had to fall and lose nearly everything, and rebuild the hardest thing possible, his reputation. You all are so negative! Try looking at the amazing lessons coming out of this story. The lessons you can show your children.
Good points. The CBA will be all but ignored on this site, for good reason. This site is more about casting villians than actually helping animals. I tried to bring up the point a couple of times but just received a diatribe in response.
I am not sure what his brother has to do with any of this either but I guess when the site in its entirety is emotion driven you get what you get. It is the typical hate people/love dog crowd except it is really themselves they are in love with, dogs do not really matter.
So to start with your last comments and work my way back, just what positive things if any has Michael Vick done? (Aside from evolving into an average Quarterback in the NFL)
I’ve looked high and low and can’t find anything positive he has done. Its not that I am jaded against him, to present a complete picture I wanted to cover my bases and I can’t find anything positive that Michael Vick has done. There are mountains on top of mountains of things that he has done that are not positive at all.
So please enlighten me. I will gladly add a page to this site highlighting anything positive that Michael Vick has done.
As a first generation college graduate myself that also came from an area where few people made it to college and many didn’t make it out of high school, I don’t really give a damn that Michael Vick happens to share that demographic characteristic with me or anyone else. Being a first generation college grad does not entitle anyone to become an evil torturing monster. It doesn’t entitle anyone to pay your friends and family to set up illegal gambling rings funding drug dealers, gang bangers, and people that sell guns. Plus, he did that in the same community that he was able to survive and thrive in.
Did he give back to his community by helping send less fortunate kids in his old neighborhood to college with scholarships?
Did he spend tens of thousands of dollars working to end violence and drug use in his old community?
No, Michael Vick did just the opposite. He screwed over the community he came from by funding more violent activities, by dragging friends and family into illegal enterprises, by putting more money into the hands of drug dealers, who then went back into the community where they could not only brag about winning money off of Michael Vick in the dog fighting rings, but they could leverage that status of Michael Vick’s as an NFL superstar to make it look like they were drug dealer superstars to the kids in the community coming up in the next generation.
Torturing and killing dogs with his bare hands, electrocuting them, throwing family pets into the rings with fighting dogs, that is evil, sick twisted etc. But in my book that is only half as evil as what he did to the people in the community that helped give him those fleeting opportunities to become a multimillion dollar superstar.
He used all of his fame, fortune and power to do evil not only against dogs, but against the people around him. You may think that is cool, you may like that type of thing. I have no idea why, but if you think a person that so despicably harms their friends, family and community that helped them become successful, then maybe you are not really any better than Michael Vick.
Somehow, I don’t think you are that sick and twisted. It seems like you have some mixed up loyalties because you can relate to a person that played in the NFL, worked in the league, was part of the club. Those types of loyalties of friends and acquaintances are hard to shake. But if you weren’t at the dog fighting rings yourself. If you didn’t help Michael Vick strangle dogs with your own hands, if you didn’t shell out tens of thousands of dollars to drug dealers, stroking their ego and turning them lose on kids in your adolescent neighborhood, then I think maybe you don’t really understand the person you are defending.
I am not jealous of Michael Vick at all. I would not take all the money in the world to become as evil, sick and twisted as he became. I’ve lived through situations where the temptation has been there, in the room on the table, all I had to do was go along and I’d be rich. I’m not rich. I chose a different path. I chose to follow the law. I chose not to harm other people. I don’t know what character flaw Michael Vick possesses that prevented him from choosing wisely every day for six years as an adult and professional with the means to live just fine even if he chose not to be corrupt. His temptation was far less than my own.
He was rich, had contracts in hand for millions of dollars and then chose to go and do terrible things. I did not have millions in the bank or in a contract, was tempted and chose to do the right thing.
I do understand business, and I do understand marketing. My former company was and is a major NFL sponsor has been for decades. I do not understand the intricacies of the Union’s role in the NFL nor that of Goodells entirely, but that does not mean that I do not understand business or that I do not understand a social irresponsible business when I see it.
The NFL needs to change. That definitely seems to include Roger Goodell, it seems to include the perspective of many of the players if as you say many of them feel that it is OK for people like Michael Vick and other violent felons to fill their ranks. If the Union is the force behind keeping violent felons that beat wives, kill people, and torture living creatures, then the Union needs to change as well.
I grew up in a union city. Unions have done a number of good things throughout the decades, but as politics go, Unions are also very corrupt. If part of the corruption in the NFL is coming from the Union, then it would appear that maybe Congress needs to step in and clean up this league of felons and its felonious union too.
diatribe.
Listen to yourself? Listen to what you are asking? Asking congress to step in because YOU dont agree with the hiring practice of a multi-billion dollar industry? Buddy you’ve got some nerve! Maybe since you and others like you are in the SEVERE minority, that it is you that needs to change… Just a thought…
Just because you are scared of Congress coming in an taking a fine toothed comb to the practices of the NFL and players in the NFL doesn’t mean that it can’t happen.
In regards to the CBA, I just read it and Goodell does have the authority to punt Michael Vick out of the NFL.
http://www.sackvick.net/2009/08/25/does-the-nfl-have-the-authority-to-remove-michael-vick-from-the-nfl-under-the-cba/
This bull about Vick being punished so much more severely than anyone else who did nothing except torture and kill “just dogs” is completely false.
2007, Alabama: Johnny Ray Lewis, 102 years on 17 felony counts of harboring dogs with the intent to fight them
2005, Alabama: Walter Ware, 40 years for dogfighting and possession of drugs to enhance the dogs’ fighting ability
2004, South Carolina: David Tant, 30 years for dogfighting and related crimes
2001, Virginia: “Fat Bill Reynolds,
30 months for transmitting images of dogfighting across state lines
Dog-fighting is a felony in all 50 states.
As columnist John Gonzales wrote in the Philadelphia Inquirer, “at best, it appears the Eagles have divided the city in half. Good luck with that ‘majority,’ gentlemen.”
Excellent Addition Max. I wish I had thought of digging up the research on this and posting it sooner, fortunately we’ve got some great readers, and contributors there on top of this too!
Dog lover..why don’t you go and read this.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4420925
Everyone will be backing Vick, except for this stupid webpage..your cause is LOST.
correction there was no “cause” to begin with.
funny how you are fighting against a shadow then.
No, EVERYONE isn’t. Not on the AJC blogs, WXIA, BAD RAP, TOPIX, ETC, ETC, ETC. CBSSPORTS….i could go on and on. i guess little jocksniffer, you assume we don’t go to other sites?Too bad. I laughed my ass off hearing about him getting sacked so hard btw and booed and barked at. SCREW VICK and screw his supporters.
ga dog lover you seem to problems if michael vick getting sacked makes you laugh hard.
This site doesn’t condone violence against Michael Vick or anyone else, that said this is a large bit silly as we are talking about a person cheering a legitimate play in the NFL.
Its amazing how Vick supporters and people that are anti-anti Vick can turn pious on a dime, even though Michael Vick himself could barely recognize a good deed if it hit him in the head, so to speak.
GA dog lover is an idiot.
It’s a wonder how people that stupid can actually make their way onto the internet.
I wonder why your mother didn’t choose abortion.
how is this comment ok? doglover your doing a horrible job as a moderator if someone saying that another person should have been dead before birth is ok. but since the person hates vick i guess its acceptable. shoot, if a vick hater kills a vick supporter you would be all for it. tsk tsk tsk.
Gem and GA Dog Lover appear to have digressed into a round of insults. Throwing insults back and forth doesn’t really help anyone much, but as long as they do not promote violence I tend to let things fall out on the side of allowing people to freely express themselves here. This site does not want to see anyone killed either before or after they are born and I think you pretty much know that Tom.
The insult did not in fact state that the first insulter should have been dead before birth, but as you already know Tom this is all just a moot point and splitting hairs over insults.
If you do not like the way the website is moderated, you are free to do what you like yourself on your own site. I have given you the tools to do this, your choice to stay here and converse with people is your own. By staying and commenting you are agreeing that my own moderation is good enough for you. I thank you for your continued support to have Michael Vick and other violent convicted felons removed from the NFL.
man doglover everything you say sounds like a brainwashed psycho. “I thank you for your continued support to have Michael Vick and other violent convicted felons removed from the NFL.” haha you mindless robot.
Now seriously tom arnold, calling someone a mindless robot is definitely crossing the line!
lol way to do a complete 180 on that one going from complaining about other people calling each other names to calling other people names lol, nothing wrong with that, just entertaining, and yes its true that it is a little monotonous sometimes, but every comment you leave on this site does help attract more visitors to this site.
Just checked the stats this morning and the comments are having an impact, weird but true.
DogLover332, do you watch the glen beck show?
No I do not, typically I watch CNBC or Bloomberg News, CNN, MSNBC & Fox News are all pretty worthless. I get the majority of my news from news reports online.
Michael Vick will be speaking to students at Nueva Esperanza Academy today. An event in partnership with Humane Society of U.S. and its President Wanye Pacelle. Thought you would like that tibit of info
Wow! How much (if any) notice did the parents have about this?
I realize dog fighting can happen anywhere, but of all the high risk areas in Philadelphia, it seems a little odd to choose a Hispanic Faith-Based Evangelical school (per their website) for Vick to share his wonderful anti-dog fighting message. Especially since this is a college prep school with a less than 1% dropout rate and more than 95% of the students are accepted into colleges.
Here’s a link to the school:
https://www.edline.net/GroupHome.page
It just amazes me that people continue to fall for these blatantly superficial efforts!
I couldn’t get much info about the school as you need an account. However thanks for the info. i knew something was wrong about this. Philly is run by hispanic and black gangs(the worst in the country). there have been se really horrible reports about animals abuse in these areas. I wish they did believe him even if I don’t.
Weird, that link went to a different screen yesterday. I wonder if the poor school is getting some backlash?
Anyway, here’s a link to a page about the school on the Esperanza website. It talks about the school’s mission and mentions the 95% college acceptance rate. At the bottom of the article is a link to the school that seems to be working for now:
http://www.esperanza.us/site/c.giKPL8PQLvF/b.3920235/k.9FE4/Esperanza_Academy.htm
I just love the internet! So much information and so little time
I’m going to blast Topix with this info now. My evil Bravis butthead laugh is starting. Hee,hee, hee, hee
Thanks for the information, can’t say as I’m surprised by Vick’s handlers on their choice, nor am I surprised by the media failing to notice this either.
when I saw the name of the school, i thought WTF? Then i realized how he wouldn’t want to lose STREET CREDIBILITY
the anti-dogfighting programs are excellent programs. i volunteered in atlanta before they brought him in. I just don’t think he is sincere. I think this is all part of his contract with the Eagles. But I would love it if these kids believed him. If I saw a change in attitude from his “it’s only dogs” fans, i might come one step closer to accepting him. however I have already seen how this game played out with DMX. I still hope he gets SACKED really hard next time he plays and EVERYTIME he plays.
did anyone here see this. dogfood for tackles! i know we are supposed to boycott but his sacks could be useful if it’s not a scam.
http://www.topix.com/forum/football-players/michael-vick/TU1TCRLHNQQC2H62I#lastPost
well this one might be better.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4456444
A Philadelphia-area animal shelter is determined to proceed with its unusual Michael Vick marketing campaign, despite the recently signed quarterback’s public appearance Tuesday, and despite the Eagles’ pledge to enact a broad-based campaign to fight animal cruelty.
Bill Smith, CEO and founder of Main Line Animal Rescue, told ESPN Tuesday that he plans to take out an advertisement in Wednesday’s Washington Post. The ad, a copy of which has been sent to ESPN, the Eagles and various national animal rights groups, reads:
“Attention Football Fans. Philadelphia is playing Washington on October 26th.
“Every time Michael Vick is tackled during the game, Main Line Animal Rescue will donate 5 bags of dog food to your local animal shelter.”
A subhead on the advertisement reads:
“Because there are no second chances on an empty stomach.”
“We feel guilty sending Michael Vick to these other cities,” Smith said. “Maybe it’s our way of apologizing for bringing Michael Vick on our team.”
I love that concept. Speaking from several years of experience it is not easy to take something no vile and negative as the Michael Vick situation and channel it into something good. On the one hand, you have to constantly remind people that it IS in fact a negative, and then attempt to flip that into something positive.
If I’m not mistaken this is a link to their website
http://www.mainlinerescue.com/
This does not seem to be a fly by night operation. They have launched successful campaigns to get Oprah Winfrey’s attention in the past in regards to Puppy Mills and they plan to run ads in local papers every where Vick and the Eagles will play this year.
That’s doing a lot more than even the Eagles or Vick have done so far!
Main Line Rescue is a phenomenal organization that really helped to draw attention to Pennsylvania’s awful puppy mills and get kennel reform passed after decades of struggling against very well-financed foes.
A week before the Vick signing was announced, the team’s owner, Jeff Lurie, donated $1500 to MLR, the first time he ever contributed to the organization
http://www.philly.com/philly/living/pets/20090818_Lurie_donated_to_shelter_before_Vick_signing.html
That seems pretty classy of Lurie, I wonder what was going through his head . . . . ‘Hey Main Line Rescue, here’s $1500 sorry about your dog problems . . . And now for some REAL business, Hey Michael Vick, here’s $1,600,000, You KNOW I’m real sorry you had to spend all that time in jail over some stupid dogs’
Pretty obvious where the lip service was in this situation.
That’s what I was thinking also. Glad to see this is an animal rights organization that refuses to be bought off. The comments in that article from CEO, Bill Smith are brutally honest and refreshing.
Also, I’m on a roll. a tribute to Sweet Jasmine. Sweet Jasmine was one of vick’s dogs to be rescued by Bad Rap. she was the dog on the cover of sport’s Illustrated. se was struck by a car last week. It was an accident and her adoptive parents were devastated. Thank God she knew love before she died. Thank you Bad Rap and all dog lovers that she was able to escape his cruel hands.
I fail to understand, how grown people can act towards another human being this way. There is more than a cruelty issue in the equation, there is an issue of humanity, respect and forgiveness that must be addressed. We put more value in animals life than we do in human beings. People are killed every day at the hands of others and people aren’t as vocal. I’m not say what Michal Vick did was right nor do I condone it but we need to look at the big picture and assess judgement based on facts and not rumors in the news. If we really want to hold people responsible for their actions, the head of the SPCA in Richmond Virginia left her dog on a hot can and the animal died. In my assessment, a death is a death no matter how it occures but the same people that called for the execution of Vick called the actions of the head of the SPCA a mistake. Wow… how we soon forget! I guess it depends who is doing the killing!
I fail to understand your logic ‘Concern Citizen’.
So if my grandmother dies from cancer that is the same thing as if she were murdered by a drive by shooting?
If Michael Vick kills dog after dog after dog by torturing them with his own hands, by electrocuting them in swimming pools, by feeding pets to dogs in the rings to give them a taste of blood that is the same thing as a person that fails to protect a single dog that fell asleep in a car?
If Michael Vick concisously makes the decision to torture animals every day for six years, that is the same as one person that accidentally killed one dog on 1 day?
I think you suffer from an inability to understand the level of forethought and cruelty that Michael Vick chose to engage in every day for years.
That is not a normal human endeavor. It is not even a normal human mistake.
There is one class of people that also share Michael Vick’s passion for killing animals.
Serial Killers
Michael Vick may not be a serial killer yet, but by his own actions he resides in a club of people that historically get their jollies killing animals for fun, getting their rocks off watching living creatures suffer to death, and engaging in sick, twisted psychotic fantasies that most normal people would never dream of let alone get pleasure from.
And what happened to Michael Vick?
He went to jail for less than 2 years.
Most people convicted of the crimes that Michael Vick was convicted of get prison sentences 10 times longer than former football hero, who wouldn’t know the truth if it were a tattoo on his knuckles.
Face it you are not concerned about Michael Vick, concerned citizen. Michael Vick is a sick and twisted loser. He spent tens of millions of dollars so that he could get off killing puppies.
You may be concerned because too many people in this world do not get a second chance, they do ever achieve forgiveness for the crimes and atrocities that they have committed.
Some of those people might even be worthy of a second chance and forgiveness, but they sure as hell are not getting any breaks with Michael Vick driving the charge to set an example of a ‘deserving’ human.
The people that are worthy of second chances and forgiveness are suffering more, because of Michael Vick. He is such a bad example, such a sick poster child for second chances, that the people that might be worthy are now getting lumped into the Michael Vick club for second chances. The problem is that Michael Vick already had his club, the club of people that like to kill puppies before graduating to serial killing.
If I were a former convict, looking for a second chance, looking for forgiveness, I sure would not want to join hands with a potential serial killer to get my chance. I also wouldn’t want to give up my position in the line in the cosmos that doles out second chances so that an unrepentant degenerate like Michael Vick who spent his millions pulling his friends and family into criminal endeavors with him.

Thank you for your passion and comments to concerned citizen. Some people have missed the true facts when it comes to Vick.
Concerned Citizen, you are incorrect when you say those who oppose Michael Vick “put more value in animals’ lives than in human beings.”
In actuality, we put more value on animals’ lives than we do on the game of football. How many other animal torturers and killers are you out there defending other than Vick?
When you say people are killed every day and that we should be more concered about that, Bud Melton, a North Carolina dog breeder who was linked to Vick’s dog-fighting ring, was found murdered in his home in April 2007. Are you working to encourage the police to solve that case?
Your premise that a death is a death no matter how it occurs is also false. Everyone eventually dies but there is a huge difference between a death which occurs by accident and intentional murder.
Take a logic class and then come back if you want to argue some more
