Tony Dungy is Michael Vick’s Dupe of the Season

Image from a 2007 blog article on Michael Vick It doesn’t matter one bit that Michael Vick ignores the advice of Tony Dungy about drinking in public.

Michael Vick’s mentor, Tony Dungy, scolded the Eagles quarterback for drinking in public after the New York Post revealed he was drinking Grey Goose and pineapple juice in a Philadelphia airport bar. "Michael, you can’t do that," Dungy told Vick, via SI.com’s Peter King. Eagles spokesman Derek Boyko told the Philadelphia Inquirer that drinking alcohol is "not in conflict with terms of (Vick’s) probation or reinstatement with the NFL." Dungy relayed to King that even though alcohol may not be completely banned, he must not present a negative image. Said King, "He can’t give the media or the public any ammunition to suggest he isn’t doing everything he can to live a clean life and devote himself totally to football.

Tony Dungy scolds Michael Vick for public alcohol consumption

The real problem is that Michael Vick was allowed back into the NFL at all.  Tony Dungy and Roger Goodell have both been fooled by an extraordinarily practiced liar.  We do not have to take issue with the idea that Michael Vick is keeping his mind on his money with a little Grey Goose, but we do take issue with the source of that money, NFL fan money that is.

If the NFL had instituted a policy that prevented violent criminals from playing permanently, then people like Roger Goodell and Tony Dungy would have been protected from this type of deceit.  That is why a policy change is in order and that is why policy is used to protect large organizations from the weaknesses of individuals, especially those with 6+ years of experience subverting that organization.

Wake up Tony Dungy, wake up Roger Goodell, the NFL needs to be changed.

It might be possible to reform an evil person, but expecting them to reform into a saint, into a marketable hero is a travesty.

  • The notion that Vick is a “pathological” or practiced liar is unfounded. Yes, he has lied in certain situations, but you would actually need to know him to effectively prove the claim. Many of these public of lying are in effect out-of-necessity and common instances in which many of us would lie (to save our own hides). You don’t tell the cops you have a marajuana on you (now THAT would be stupid). You don’t tell one person you’re not involved in dogfighting and than tell another person. Sure, these are bad decisions he’s made, but they don’t lend any credence to the idea that Vick is a pathological liar.

  • Sorry, should have actually proofread my previous post, lol… here’s the edited version:

The notion that Vick is a “pathological” or practiced liar is unfounded. Yes, he has lied in certain situations, but you would actually need to know him to effectively prove the claim. • There is a difference between pathological and practiced. Your comment is the first on our entire site (just did a search of the index to confirm) that mentions the word pathological.

The definition of pathological liar per Merriam-webster is as follows:
      http://www.merriam-webster.com/medical/pathological%20liar

      Main Entry:
      pathological liar
      Function:
      noun

: an individual who habitually tells lies so exaggerated or bizarre that they are suggestive of mental disorder

I would grant you that Michael Vick has been caught in so many lies that it may appear habitual, but his lies tend to be fairly binary, ergo he says he did not do something when he is later proven to have done it.

I have used the word practiced, because he seems to have been caught so many times, yet when confronted with the same people that he lied to in the past, they again accept his statement and move forward as if he is not telling a lie. These types of practiced lies worked very well for Hitler historically, until people started to realize that they COULD NOT TRUST HITLER to tell the truth.

I find it odd that Roger Goodell bought Michael Vick’s bag of tricks again. The Atlanta Falcons were not that ignorant.

I believe Einstein put it best when he said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome. If people keep listening to Michael Vick’s lies yet expect truth to emerge, maybe they are a little insane.
      :)

      • why do you care michael vick is a liar? You have never talked to vick in your life so it affects your life in zero ways. And I highly doubt you have ever spent a dime on any NFL merchandise, so why do you care if others do?

        • Because Michael Vick’s lies are backed by hundreds of millions of dollars and harm society.

Because when people buy into lies like Michael Vick’s they are also more likely to buy into lies from people like George W Bush, Dick Cheney and the people responsible for abuses at Abu Grahib.

Because if you don’t call bullshit on lies they escalate and before you know it you are living in Europe in 1939 and your country has been over run by Nazis.

Because I’m not a toad on a log and I don’t have to put up with that kind of crap, take it silently and do nothing. I have the ability to make a difference even if it is a small one by running this website and bringing thousands of people here every day to contemplate the value of believe continued lies of people just because they are backed by million dollar marketing campaigns.

          • really? michael vick playing profressional football is going to turnout like one of the worst parts in human history(WW2)? I don’t like michael vick but the idea of boycotting and thinking there is a cause is pure stupidity. Michael Vick lying does not do anything to me. Since the time michael vick was involved with dogfighting he has not affected me. Politians, yes they do affect me. But really comparing michael vick to hitler is completely insane. This website would have way more support if you used your brain more instead of posting idiotic things like that. Michael Vick, like all professional athletes and celebrities don’t affect the average person. Please get a smarter leader or you will continue to have negative impact on whatever your trying to do.

  • If Dungy can’t keep Mr Rehabilitated away from a drink, stripclubs, and music videos with Young Jeezy, who the Hell is going to keep him away from a dogfight?

    • I’d have to agree with that logic. I wonder if Tony Dungy has already been given the boot. ‘Thanks Tony, needed that recommendation now don’t let the door hit you on the way out…’

      • that logic? That is stupid. Most Americans drink. Last time I checked drinking, stripclubs, and music videos are legal. Do you think michael vick is underage or something? Use your brains guys.

        • read the conditions of his parole, read the conditions of his reinstatement to the NFL.

Alcohol may be legal but both state he is not supposed to touch it.

Like I said in the actual article, I think its up to Goodell in regards to the reinstatement letter that forbids alcohol and his probation officer in regards to the special terms of his parole that appear to have been violated.

  • Anyone who has ever known someone to go to rehab, what is it they tell them NOT to do? Stay away from old playplaces, playmates, alcohol, drugs, etc. He has already violated all of this. The sad part is I would rather be proved wrong because Vick in trouble means dogs die.

    • he didn’t break any rule or law so he has violated nothing.

      • The second item in the Special Conditions of Supervision seem to be where Michael Vick may have already run into trouble, it states

“The defendant shall participate in a a program approved by the Probation Office for substance abuse, which program may include residential treatment and testing to determine whether the defendant has reverted to the use of drugs or alcohol”

        • eagles officials have already announced he didn’t violate anything. Your sources are horrible.

          • Yes, I know (its mentioned in the article) but the really interesting thing is that the Eagles do not speak for the NFL nor for the State of Virginia nor the courts.

Kind of odd that they would speak out on something that has nothing to do with them. Almost as if they are trying to protect Michael Vick, their new star that they just hired. It would be a serious PR disaster if he were sent back to jail before he ever played again.

  • the eagles have nothing to do with michael vick? They obviously know more about the situation than you. They would have already announced if michael vick had violated something. Get your facts straight kid, it seems your always the last to hear the truth.

    • Yeah, what tom arnold said, get your facts straight kid!

Oh wait, I’m not a kid and my facts were dead on accurate.

      :)

I said the Eagles DO NOT speak for the NFL. They do not. Roger Goodell as the commissioner speaks for the NFL.

I also said the Eagles do not speak for the state of Virginia nor the courts. Last I checked the Eagles weren’t even in the state of Virginia and even if they were, would not speak for the state. They don’t even speak for the courts in Philadelphia.

Sure wish I could keep my facts straight.

And given the publicity manipulation that the Eagles have been engaging in since the moment they started thinking about hiring Michael Vick, I think its safe to say they are worrying about protecting their image first and dealing with what is right or good for everyone else later.

  • Recovering addicts are not supposed to drink. Do some research. Vick knows this after being in rehab two friggin years, I assure you. He just doesn’t care.
