The Onion’s Quarter Back Sneak Against Tony Dungy and Michael Vick

Tony Dungy Casually Asks Michael Vick If Dogfighting Was Fun

image

Must have been a real rush watching those dogs go at it like that, huh? Morally reprehensible, of course, but, man, it’s got to be tempting to head back to the pit and just mix it up a little. Good thing you’re not doing that anymore. So bad." Dungy later showed Vick a photo of his new pit bull, Tex, and asked him what he thought.

The viral jokes, videos, parodies of Michael Vick have slowed down quite a bit, but the Onion is not completely asleep at the wheel.  Personally, I don’t find this particular joke that funny, but do appreciate the viral power of satire online.

Drop us a link if you have seen some better jokes, videos, etc.  (please nothing violent against Michael Vick or anyone else)

Now we are down to fake articles. next stop! no articles, then no website.

    • The onion has been providing satire for years and years. The power of satire and humor are very important to removing false heroes from pedestals so that we can then see the reality behind the myth.

No one has ever claimed the Onion to be a news source. lol What’s next will you deride National Lampoons or Saturday Night Live for spreading lies about Michael Vick?

      :)

      • Rich:

I am well aware of what the onion is and what the onion does. That you need to cite it is laughable.
That aside do your research, your site has about 3 months left before it is useless, (yes useless, even to the housewives you serve).

        • The power of humor to remove people from pedestals is extremely effective, ex.

          Gerald Ford – Chevy Chase
Jimmy Carter – Oscar Meyer Weiner spoof song
George W Bush – Just about everything
          Bill Clinton – Monica Lewinsky
Illinois Nazis – The Blues Brothers

As you are likely aware, I don’t really care if you agree with our tactics. You have been very clear in your disregard for all of our tactics, but we do appreciate your continued content contributions. :)

  • Rick:

Dog lover..why don’t you go and read this.

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4420925

Everyone will be backing Vick, except for this stupid webpage..your cause is LOST.

    • Nancy:

Why are you so threatened and fascinated by this site? Time will tell whether the Eagles will do anything to help animal welfare groups and whether Vick will bring something to the team except enmity.
In the meantime, those who think the NFL should ban all players guilty of violent felonies committed while they were in the league will do our best to make our opinions heard.
Those who think all should be forgiven and forgotten might be much more at home on the Eagles site although even there fans are split 49 against and 51 percent in favor of Vick, hardly the big majority the team claims
Face it, torturing and killing dogs is completely unacceptable to most Americans of all races

    • Hey Rick,

I don’t quite follow the importance of that article. It appears that the Eagles had an exploratory meeting with a small select group of people that play a role in the local Philadelphia area working against dog fighting.

The result was that the Eagles ‘listened’ to them (after the fact) but did not commit to do anything during the meeting.

Michael Vick’s actions in dog fighting crossed many state lines. He wasn’t exactly working at a national level but he was involved heavily in the south east, maybe as much as the east coast. Its nice that the Eagles are NOW worried about Philadelphia after they already pulled the trigger, but it would have been better if they had done some investigation BEFORE they hired a dog killer to represent the city of brotherly love.

  • The Elector of Saxony:

“Everyone will be backing Vick, except for this stupid webpage..your cause is LOST.”

Sometimes, people doing what is right find themselves alone in their efforts, alone in their decency, alone in the courage of their convictions. Hitler and Stalin were popular, that didn’t make them right.

If every stadium in America fills with cheering fans, all wearing Vick jerseys, if he wins a Super Bowl and Nike gives him a billion-dollar endorsement deal for the “Ron Mexico Dawg-Fighting Shoe”, if they send him to the Congress from Pennsylvania, he will still be wrong, and the people who support him will still be morally bankrupt.

Humanity has a long history of mob-mentality making the way for evil to flourish; “Barrabas! Barrabas! Give us Barrabas!!” “Ein Riech! Ein Volk! Ein Fuhrer!” Citing the majority in our debased culture is certain to taint your cause, rather then lend it credibility.

    • Excellent points and I highly recommend the book, Ordinary Men

      http://www.amazon.com/Ordinary-Men-Reserve-Battalion-Solution/dp/0060995068

It will definitely help increase awareness about how a mob mentality can be manipulated, or how people when in a group of their peers or people they are working for can be pushed into doing things they would never do in a one on one situation.

    • tom arnold:

the hitler comparisons from this website are really getting pathetic. michael vick is just a football player nothing more. hitler is one of the worst people in human history. really stupid to compare the two.

      • As soon as someone comes up with a better argument to defend Michael Vick (I understand you guys don’t have much to work with) then the analogy stands.

You can call it a bad comparison all you like but the only difference is the amount of time that Hitler had to operate and his total amount of power over that time. Hitler worked at it for over 2 decades, Vick only played around for 6 years.

Both Vick and Hitler were caught and sent to jail early in their evil work career. That was the time when Hitler hatched Mein Kampf. People dismissed Hitler after he got out of jail, like you are dismissing Michael Vick now.

If people had been more diligent like I am now back in Germany in the late 20’s, maybe Hitler would have never gotten as far as he did.

I’ve had more experience chasing after war criminals than I would like. I happen to know that evil people start small and get worse.

    • Rich:

So giving a fellow human being a chance at redemption is being morally bankrupt? typical hate human/love animal rhetoric.
And Barrabas? Really? How about “Forgive us our trepasses as we forgive those who trespass against us”

      • I do not subscribe to dogma. You can quote bible verses all you like but that doesn’t change who Michael Vick is, it doesn’t change what he has done, and it does not mean that society should be subjected to future harm at Michael Vick’s hands or the continued marketing frenzy that he is involved in currently.

  • Rick:

And I just bought a Vick jersey for my german shepard. You wanna protest that. E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!

BIG FAIL sackvick.net!!! hahaha how about you go after this person!

    • Max:

Your apparant joy in the accidental death of this poor dog…”hahaha”… is really appalling

    • You are truly grasping at straws now. First, we are not associated with the Virginia SPCA. Second, there is a big difference between an accident and choosing to walk out your back door and kill a dog every day.

You chose to buy your German Shepard some clothes, but you didn’t wake up electrocute your German Shepard today. There’s a big difference between you and Michael Vick, just like there is a big difference between the head of the VA SPCA and Michael Vick.

Regardless, I do appreciate you sharing the link with us. It definitely helps the site!

  • Wally:

I just think that it is funny that on this site there is post after post talking about how shameful the “marketing frenzy” is behind Michael Vick while the whole right side of the site is ads selling t-shirts with Michael Vicks name on it. Say what you will about the t-shirts being a form of protest, but in all actuality it is just people trying to make money off of Vicks name. Can you say Hypocrites?

    • You may have a point there Wally, but at the end of the day it serves primarily to cancel out a portion of the marketing frenzy being pushed by Michael Vick.

In judo it is taught to use the force of your opponent against them, t-shirts become a way for a number of people to express themselves and share that expression with other people that would like to protest this situation.

      • Wally:

If you or your this site were the ones actually printing the t’s and maybe teh proceeds were going to charity or some animal related cause, i would say more power to you. However from what I can tell all of those t’s are being sold by websites that make t’s for every scandal that hits the newspapers. The person that buys the t and wears it may actually be doing it as a form of protest, but I would guess that the people selling actually give two shits and are just in it to make a quick buck.

There are lots of blog sites protesting this issue and they all seem to be selling similar items. i just think it is ironic that no matter how you look at, this and every other protest site against Vick, are actually contributing to the Money Marketing Machine that is this issue.

        • The t’s on the right have been made by many many different people. We’ve simply linked to them through the outlet that makes it possible Zazzle. This is primarily because we’re good at websites, but pretty terrible at designing t-shirts.

The site does and has operated at a loss since we started it in 2007. To date, we have raised $175 (through ads mostly and a little from t’s, which is a new thing for us), but our hosting expenses since we started have cost us $1700. We run the ads to help offset the bandwidth costs a bit. As you can tell a $175 offset of $1700 is not very much.

I doubt seriously that we will ever raise more than our costs. We are not a non-profit nor an organization to raise money. We advise people that wnat to contribute to provide it to an organization that engages in that type of activity. We are simply here to provide more information about the Michael Vick situation(originally), work to have Michael Vick removed from the NFL where he could use fan money to cause further harm (as he did for 6 years while in the NFL) and our cause is in the process of growing to include the removal of all violent felons from the NFL, not just Michael Vick.

I do understand your perceptions and do not disagree. We do the best we can with the limited resources that we have.

          • Wally:

I do appreciate the fact that this site is essence not directed solely at Vick but at all felons in the NFL. The people that want to castrate Vick but are fine with the likes of Ray Lewis playing in teh NFL crack me up.

          • Rich:

Is Ray Lewis a felon Wally?

  • Wally:

I have to give you props though, as this is the by far the best of teh sites I have seen. People actually seem, for teh most part to have intelligent and researched posts.

    • We do our best, we do make mistakes and work to correct those as soon as we can. Our readers on both side of the many debates help us to make corrections, if we do not catch it ourselves.

  • bill:

Rick, Ralph, and Rich – you guys know each other? Are you the same person? You have a lot in common, hahaha.

    • Rich:

What do we have in common? All our names start with “r”’s and we are OK with giving a fellow human a chance at redemption? Hey redemption starts with an “r” too, wow!

      • Funny thing about being an adult, you do not need to be given a chance to redeem yourself, you just do it.

Oddly, Michael Vick has a long history of not doing anything redeeming even given the thousands of amazing chances he has received.

        • Rich:

Typical love animal/hate people rhetoric. He will do more for the cause in the next year than 100 of these little websites stacked on top of one another. So how much are you pulling in with this site?

          • lol Rich you are slipping. :) Has the commenting become too much for you?

There was a time when you provided some good (relatively speaking) arguments to defend second chances and what have you, but now you seem unable to add numbers up, even when they are on the same page.

Try running that scroll bar up just a little bit, or flip through the other pages where I’ve answered this question several times.

I guess the bonus rounds were too much for you after all. ;)

          • Rich:

Another cute post with no substance, like the rest of the site.
I do not read every post on here so I did not read that you lose money every day with this site. Not sure if I believe you, no offense but you have to be pretty poor at what you are doing to not be able to pull a profit with a websaite like this and it “26K of traffic” maybe it is because you really on have 20 of those 26K that actually stuck around?
Why don’t you post a list with all jobs that felons are approved to do by you and what they are allowed to be paid?
I am curious how deep this issue is with you.

          • I’ve simply replied to your own comments each time you have asked. I can’t help it if you choose not to read what is right before your eyes, or published on the internet.

I don’t care what Michael Vick does as long as he is not playing in the NFL paid for by fan money. Let him take any other legal job he likes. That is as deep as it gets for me on that one.

      • bill:

REDEMPTION???? hahaha, that’s rich. redemption through football. that’s redemption spelled $$$

        • lol yeah who knew that playing in the wildcat formation was the path to redemption. :)

What’s next baptismal by Gatorade dousing?

        • Rich:

So your issue is jealousy? How much someone else makes or how they make it means little to me, if he were a janitor I would hope for his turn around all the same. I like what I have going on and do not begrudge others for their riches or lack thereof.

          • bill:

then why are you so worried about how much this cat is making with his sackvick web site? (a bundle, i bet)

where are your buddies ralph and rick? I want to know what they think, or maybe they’re busy doing some midwestern housewives

          • That’s rich Rich, being jealous of a psychopath.

I doubt you would trade your mental stability (providing the benefit of the doubt here) for fame and fortune in the NFL?

I sure would not, as I’ve described before.

The ugly truth is that Michael Vick didn’t even make a trade, he had it all and still chose the actions of a psychopath.

Its not about jealousy, its about pity for a person so sick and twisted, but its also about not helping that person continue to do sick and depraved things with our fan money.

You want to give Michael Vick a second chance so much, go out and buy season tickets for all the Eagles games, and spend as much of your hard earned money on Vick Jersey’s etc.

The city of Philadelphia’s tax payers just spent millions on the Eagles, and Michael Vick benefited. The Eagles’ sponsors have also spent millions on the Eagles and Michael Vick benefited.

I could care less if he regains a fortune, but I won’t be a part of helping him build that fortune.

Yes he can take another infinite chance that’s been provided by society, but we don’t have to fund it if we don’t want to.

You can keep preaching about how people deserve second chances, but that doesn’t mean a person with $9 million in assets, and $6.8 million in contracts deserves our ‘charity’.

Let Michael Vick go panhandle somewhere else. Somewhere where his success at begging doesn’t harm society with his bad examples and pay offs to gang bangers, drug dealers, dog fighters and who knows what else.

          • Rich:

Those would be desperate miswestern housewives, and where they are? I am not sure, do not know them, never really conversed with them. Maybe the fun wore off.
as for finding out what this guy is pulling in:
It started as curiosity, (frankly this site is a good idea), but he never replied to me with a direct answer so I wanted him to come clean. he ended up answering to someone else that he loses money on this, I do not think I believe that, seems pretty low budget to not be able to turn a profit.

          • Rich:

For someone who is not jealous of the contract you did not waste any time bringing it up again.
But hey, no Manson comparisons, you are getting there.

And I am on the list for Eagles tickets, should be there next year, the list, by the way is 40K long, or 16K more people than have ever visited this site.

          • terrific, don’t forget to take a smart phone so you can comment on our site live while you watch the games whenever you get your tickets.

  • bill:

    adios amigos

  • JMo:

Classic convo with Rich, DogLover. :)

While I dont condone the actions by Michael Vick, I do however offer my support and forgiveness to anyone who has paid their debt to society and continues to work towards preventing the same mistakes they made. Since Michael was put on the active roster today I thought I would chime in.

One thing I dont understand is, you mentioned that Vick should do something other than play football bc he would be paid by the fans. Ok so, if the fans didnt support the team by buying his jerseys, the eagles tickets, and whatever else associated with Vick to pay his salary then he would be released. Well thats clearly not the case nor will it be in the future. I feel as a society we are so quick to judge others and refuse to give people second chances. Well, this is his second chance at living life, being a productive part in society, and having his career in football. If he makes it through this uphill battle, he will have earned everything he receives for all his hard work. In my opinion of course. ;)

Im sure only about half of the people on here are Christians, at least thats what it seems in society now a days, if not forgive me, but I feel in my heart that God is forgiving. If the doors have opened for Vick to play football. I also believe it was in His will for him to do so, otherwise Vick wouldnt have been hired.

Btw, not that I agree with all of the hate towards Vick, although somewhat justified bc I personally love dogs and own one, you have put together a nice website and done your homework.
