Best Michael Vick Preseason Protest Sign Thus Far
Just wanted to quickly share this protest sign from a fairly balanced article on the LA Times Blog, more of an article in pictures, from Michael Vick’s water testing re-entry into the NFL preseason yesterday.
The New York Times didn’t have a half bad article either. In general most main stream journalists whether they cover sports or not, seem to be embracing the opportunity to write the come back story of Michael Vick, regardless of how morally bankrupt it is to paint that story through rose colored glasses. In fairness, we are in a recession, and the newspapers and reporters are struggling to keep their business and jobs. They and their editors probably see more financial legs in a story week after week where Michael Vick gets a mention as opposed to a story where Michael Vick goes out into the world and does something more worth while.
They were quick to help knock him down in 2007, not because what he did was terribly detestable and very sick, but because it made good business for 24 hours news coverage during the cycles at the time. These days there is no news cycle about a man that gets out of prison, but there’s lots of news cycles to be spun and sold about the most notorious animal abuser in the country getting out of prison, rejoining the national felons league and picking up a fat contract all in the course of a summer.

How right you are. The Vick fans love to taunt that he is back in the league. They seem to forget that laws were changed and focus was brought to this crime.
boo hoo, some guy you never met got his job back waaaaah!
Gonna edit that [edit - comment removed for explicity language referencing dogs making love]?
Seems to me you are an asshole
ooh dat make me mad my bruuda died becuz dem dogs. ooooh. sack vick [edit - dogs making love]!

Wow too bad the people who held that sign weren’t even protesters. They were eagles fans who are still season ticket holders. Yet another lie and manipulation tactic. Is it that hard to tell the truth?
If it walks like a duck, talks like a duck, and protests like a duck with a gigantic sign showing sad pit bull faces, blood, tears, and comments referencing Michael Vick, then I’m going to vote with my eyes, believe my eyes and say those are Michael Vick protesters.
Now, where in my words above did I claim they were NOT Eagles fans or NOT season ticket holders?
Answer – No where. I did not state what you call a lie.
So I guess when you call someone out for telling a lie and they never told a lie, that must make you either factually challenged or a liar yourself. Then again maybe you are the one attempting (poorly) to engage in manipulation tactics.
Regardless, we do appreciate your contributions Tom to the Campaign to Sack Michael Vick. Its with great contributors on both sides of the argument that we will ultimately get violent felons like Michael Vick punted out of the NFL.
Keep up the great work!
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/football/nfl/08/27/vick.protesters.ap/index.html
Clarissa Sherrow the woman standing in the middle of the poster says, “I am not protesting;I’m a true eagles fan”.
Come on Doglover do your dang research. Sorry ain’t a protester.
“Its with great contributors on both sides of the argument that we will ultimately get violent felons like Michael Vick punted out of the NFL.”
That’s not how the world works and the fact that you think that this is how to exterminate violent felons from the NFL really makes me question if you can even tie your shoes.
Sure Tom, so lets put that in context…
First, the article calls them ‘three protesters’
Second, Sherrow calls for Vick to put his money where his mouth is. She may not call herself a ‘protester’ but I’ll refer back to my protests like a duck comment
Third, the image from the AP has a file name of “vick.protesters.ap”
Fourth, the definition of Protest is as follows
In this case this ‘group’ has made an objection in writing in the form of a sign and together, they have collectively made the gesture of disapproval that thus far Michael Vick has NOT put his money where his mouth is.
Fifth, when she is quoted
Her first sentence seems to contradict the second. This often happens when reporters or editors only write up a few select sentences from a longer response.
As such, we do not have her full context. It could be that she was trying to point out that she is not protesting the Eagles despite the fact that she most definitely is protesting Michael Vick’s lack of any action financially.
Your lack of ability to break down the facts even after you have ‘done your research’ makes me question why you would want to know if I can tie my shoes or not.
At the end of the day it is you who is running a website that is not even making money. It is you who is making a website that dedicates itself on exterminating Michael Vick and Violent Felons from the NFL, when the chances of that happening are smaller than the world ending tommorrow. It is you that honestly believes that Michael Vick is important in your life. You are in no position to question anybody’s intelligence when this website is irrational and just plain ignorant. I pray that God finally lets you see the light and helps you understand that your way of thinking is similar to that of a kid with down syndrome. May God have mercy on your soul Doglover.
Point taken, fixing things in the world we live in is never easy and often times seems impossible or insurmountable but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try to make the improvement.
I will happily pit my soul up to whomever for my efforts in life, to improve the world I live in and help people.
“Give back to the animals?” What? Some of these animals are no longer alive. They don’t get a second chance! Why should Vick? I’m going to laugh when Karma bites him in the butt. Cause there are lots of big guys that are going to love knocking him on his ass. I would be ashamed to be an Eagles fan!
How can you possibly claim they are not “protestors”? Do you think that sign indicates their support of the signing of Michael Vick?
The fact that they are Eagles fans is far more telling than if they had been PETA activists
Considering the applause and ovation as Vick ran on the field, the fact that his jersey is still a top seller per nfl.com and that the sponsors know that any boycott is fruitless….exactly what is the point of this site?? To showcase a bunch of people who are caught up in Michael Vick when he’s learning a NFL playbook right now and not tripping your worthless petitions? LOL, it took all of 3 weeks from the time the guy’s ankle bracelet was removed for him to be reinstated, signed and in training camp. Basically, that was the NFL’s way of showing you that…ummm… money talks, bs walks. Viok makes the league money and the NFL sponsors are boycott-proof. No one will stop buying beer, no one will withdraw their money from any of those banks…no one will stop buying P&G products or stop going to McDonald’s or Burger King or KFC. Basically, the NFL told you folks to kick rocks.
You’re right about the money. The minute Vick costs the NFL and its sponsors more than he makes them, he will be gone.
Boycotts take a long time to work. A lengthy boycott of Lancaster County tourism eventually played a major role in getting puppy mill reform laws passed in Pennsylvania. A boycott of Philadelphia tourism in a time of economic problems will have an impact.
Eagles’ fans who care only about football will be on Vick’s side as long as they think he may help them win a Super Bowl. When he shows as he did in Atlanta that he really isn’t all that good, they will turn on him just the way he turned on his dogs
Casey is correct. The NFL may get a short term gain out of Michael Vick, but we are in this for the long term.
Michael Vick has not been good for business on a long term business in the past if you look at the money he cost the Eagles and his sponsors while he was out killing dogs for sick fun for six years straight.
25 teams said they wanted no part of this scum bag , Philly had no problem .Even though he will play , I still wish him nothing short of death or very near .There is nothing that the common man can do to equal corporate greed . But we do not have to accept him or his new phony bull shit that he has changed .Rot in hell VICK
Fred,
Maybe the NFL is too far gone to be saved. Maybe they really don’t care about the character of players. Maybe there are millions who don’t care if Leonard Little and Donte Stallworth run out and kill some more people? Maybe there are just a few people who still see Michael Vick and a degenerate felon who shouldn’t be rammed down our kids throats on Sunday. I would still rather be on the side of what is moral and decent than on the side of murderers and criminals. If I were the last person on Earth to so do, I would still do it. Oh, that means I have character. Something the NFL, Michael Vick, and his supporters are truly lacking.
By the way, Vick was one of the worst QB’s to ever play the NFL game. He never did learn how to throw the ball in the pocket, and he will never take a team very far running from sideline to sideline.
“By the way, Vick was one of the worst QB’s to ever play the NFL game. He never did learn how to throw the ball in the pocket, and he will never take a team very far running from sideline to sideline.”
i know you hate vick but at least be smart about it. Vick is not one of the worst QBs to play in the NFL i can easily name 100 QBs that are worse if not more. Vick in my opinion was an average QB but you truly do not know football. Also he took his team to the NFC Championship so he could take his team far. And if you ever watched a Vick highlight he ran up the middle never sideline to sideline. Please don’t talk about football if your knowledge of it is similar to that of an eight year old.
One hundred quarterbacks in the league who are worse?
In four full seasons with the Falcons, Vick compiled a QB rating of over 80 once, in 2002. In his final year in Atlanta, his rating was 75.7, 20th in the league. He has some natural talent but was very self-centered with a run first, pass second view, has a poor work ethic and no leadership skills which is not a winning formula
He thinks he is worth $10 million and while he may have some success in Wildcat formations, nobody is going to throw that kind of money at hime for his limited role
thank you for supporting my point. In the year 2000-2003 the average passer rating was 78.9 and as current as 2007 the average passer rating was 83.5. So yes he is about average and elector’s claim that “Vick was one of the worst QB’s to ever play the NFL game” is totally bogus.
“He thinks he is worth $10 million” what did michael vick say this to you? lol michael vick knows he is not worth 10 million especially out of prison. And nobody would give 10 million for a back up QB. It seems you also know very little football.
No, I don’t speak to Mr. Vick but I assume his attorney and business manager does and that’s what he told the Atlanta Journal-Constition. Perhaps Vick and his representatives don’t know very much about football or the value of a backup QB
http://www.ajc.com/sports/content/sports/falcons/stories//2009/03/29/michael_vick_bankruptcy.html
Even though that article does make it sound like Vick expected to make $10 million per year upon his return, he didn’t get it.
Lets say $10 million was the goal for this year, as according to this article it was. That means that Vick fell short of his goal by about $8.4 million.
I’d suggest that we as a group of people all around the country that do not want to see violent felons in the NFL succeeded in blocking Michael Vick from getting a $10 million touch down, but we were unable to block is $1.8 million kick.
Regardless, that was just one drive. It doesn’t really amount to a hill of beans one way or another in the larger scheme of trying to make things better. We’ve got a long way to go, and its obvious that the NFL is continuing to bring in and promote felons in the NFL.
Its just crazy how a bunch of folks who have never played this game are sitting around complaining about what this game should be, and who is worthy of playing. I mean really, you all could not really believe that you should have a say in who is hired and who isnt? What makes you feel you have that right? Further more, since you are clearly in the minority, have you considered that maybe it is you who is wrong? Why not use all of this energy towards something actually constructive? Fiving the economy, foreign relations policies, etc. Our own government is torturing people for heavens sake, and you all are spending all this time worrying about a man who hurt dogs! There is something seriously wrong with you all’s priorities!
Why are Vick supporters so threatened by the fact that there are people who oppose his being welcomed back to the NFL? You yourselves say you’re the majority and we’ve lost so why even bother to come here?
I wouldn’t care if I was the only person who thinks it’s wrong for Vick to be reinstated but there are thousands of us involved in boycotts, petitions and websites and we have every right to express our opinion.
Why not use the energy you’re expending criticizing us to do something about all the other problems you mention instead of spending time on a website where people of your opinion are in the minority?
and what do you think about Michael Vick have a top 5 selling jersey?? Looks like your efforts are in vain.
Not such a big deal. In the book marketing business people pay other people to buy books off the shelves to drive books up to the best sellers lists.
Wouldn’t be that big of a deal for the NFL or even Michael Vick for that matter to arrange for a large purchase of these jerseys through proxies. They can simply be resold again later, or if its the NFL behind it, they could simply fabricate the numbers.
Having worked in fortune 500 companies in the past myself, I’m no stranger to these types of tactics. Happens all the time, but you can’t use them as any type of metric to base REAL decisions.
No, that’s not it. Vick fans like to argue. TRUST ME.
“So yes he is about average and elector’s claim that “Vick was one of the worst QB’s to ever play the NFL game” is totally bogus.”
If Vick was average, as you admit, why was he paid so much? If his career has been average, which you admit, why does anyone care if he comes back to the NFL? Matt Hasselback was average. Vinny Testaverde was average. Who would be so adamant about their return to the NFL if they had run a crime family?
He HAD a promising career that was built on a TERRIBLE foundation of lies, crimes, illegal gambling, corruption and more.
This is really a moot point. The good things he did while playing a game are canceled out by the terrible things he did in real life.
You can be the best football player, golfer, basketball player, monopoly player, chess player, etc in the world, but if you are breaking the law and making the world a sorrier place to live in every chance you get in real life, then in general you don’t deserve fans, adoration, idolization and all the money that comes from that. Since the NFL business model is built on fans, adoration, idolization and the money that comes from that, Michael Vick does not deserve to be in the NFL.
i said michael vick was average as a QB, but he was one of the best athletes to play the game. You can’t say he wasn’t the most exciting player of the decade. He put people in the seats had the highest selling jersey. And even though he was an average run first QB, defenses could not stop the guy. Testervarde and Hasselback don’t excite people like michael vick. It seems to me Elector that you merely saw vick’s stats and not him play. You probably never even heard of him before he went to jail. I understand you hate vick for his horrible crimes but he was still one of the best athletes to play in the NFL ever.
I wouldn’t go so far as to say he was the best player ever, by a long shot, but he was exciting to watch, which made his betrayal of fans even worse.
“understand you hate vick for his horrible crimes but he was still one of the best athletes to play in the NFL ever.”
Here’s a little question designed to test your character; Which of those things is most important, in the scheme of things? The horrible crimes, or his athletic ability?
As to being exciting, so you think the fans were excited when their QB, who had never won a big game, never went to the Super Bowl, never won a championship, gave them the finger?
Wonder how long it will take him to flip off the Philly fans who are not known for their patience?
Now the Eagles followers, previously best known for booing and throwing snowballs at Santa, will also be famed for giving the torturer and killer of dogs a standing ovation
Never believe that all Phila people support Vick. The Eagles are trying very hard to get the support of animal groups by inviting them to meetings. They are clearly concerned about public relations and the campaigns againt the sponsers…………………………………………..He is a national disgrace and much of the so called leadership in Philly does not have the courage to respond……………………………………………The latest unbelievable event occured when the Philly NAACP protested in favor of Vick calling us racist…………………………………………….Most Black and White people alike love tbeir dogs. With true heros like Jackie Robinson how can one pull the race card…..Our quarterback Mc Nabb who is Black has enjoyed support…………………………………………. Racism is wrong and I am not saying it does not exist but I despise Vick if he is white black pink etc,,,,,I rest my case
Penelope, I never meant to insinuate most people in Philadelphia support Vick. To the contrary, he has gotten a cold shoulder from almost all animal welfare groups in the city and from many Philadelphia residents.
And I agree with you that this is not a black and white issue except in the minds of a few people who insist on playing the race card. I think what is racist is for people to insinuate that only white people care about the welfare of dogs.
I always thought Donovan McNabb was a class act and was very disappointed to read that he lobbied for Vick. I wonder if he would want Vick anywhere near his two dogs
He seems to be a bit of a fair whether friend to fans. When things are going well, he’s ok. When things aren’t going so well he takes it out on the fans.
Hard to say, while I think there are some flaws in his character that he may not be able to fix, I suspect this may be one where a little age may help him overcome the urge to flip off the hand that feeds him, the Philadelphia Eagles fans that is.
Vic may have gotten applause from one sidebut from what I read he also got booed from several other sides everytime he went out in to the field.
Regardeless you can find out more on the fallowing side and site as to waht people think about nfl sponsors, boycutts etc.www.petitiononline.com/ridofvic/petition.html
I am sick of the race card. I go to another website often. I won’t even answer a poster who plays it no more than I will respond to a poster with the “dogs don’t matter”attitude! The good thing is some linebackers on these other teams feel the same way and they are going to sack him and sack him again! they are HEROS!
I can’t believe I never knew about this site until today. I’m really glad I found it! I’ve already Stumbled it and will Twitter about it in a minute.
Anyway, I wanted to thank you for featuring one of our anti-Michael Vick designs. It’s the “Hey, Michael: How would you like to be hung…” one. And it’s selling like crazy.
I am so appalled that Vick was reinstated by the NFL and signed by the Eagles…I’m still trying to accept it.
I’m glad he’s doing his “look at me, I’m trying to redeem myself” tour, but I have serious doubts about his sincerity. However, if even one child realizes that animal fighting is wrong as a result of hearing Michael Vick speak out against it, then I guess it’s worth it.
I do not get it , this guy is scum of the earth . People act like he beat a drug habit or something , like dogs are worthless .If this was a NHL hockey player or Major League Baseball he would never see action again . I am disgusted that Philly picked him up , he is not even needed .Now they are trying to cover their tracks and make him do good , it’s not in his nature. You do not kill and fight dogs for years and now do a 360 .
Most of us know it’s BS.
from Donna of Bad Rap
The details that got to me then and stay with me today involve the swimming pool that was used to kill some of the dogs. Jumper cables were clipped onto the ears of underperforming dogs, then, just like with a car, the cables were connected to the terminals of car batteries before lifting and tossing the shamed dogs into the water. Most of Vick’s dogs were small – 40lbs or so – so tossing them in would’ve been fast and easy work for thick athlete arms. We don’t know how many suffered this premeditated murder, but the damage to the pool walls tells a story. It seems that while they were scrambling to escape, they scratched and clawed at the pool liner and bit at the dented aluminum sides like a hungry dog on a tin can.
I wear some pretty thick skin during our work with dogs, but I can’t shake my minds-eye image of a little black dog splashing frantically in bloody water … screaming in pain and terror … brown eyes saucer wide and tiny black white-toed feet clawing at anything, desperate to get ahold. This death did not come quickly. The rescuer in me keeps trying to think of a way to go back in time and somehow stop this torture and pull the little dog to safety. I think I’ll be looking for ways to pull that dog out for the rest of my life.
everytime I read that it breaks my heart -again.
I would love to see Vick and his Gangstas thrown in the pool to suffer , I would throw a party
I would declare it a national holiday!sorry!
Who care about passer ratings arnold, the bottom line is…..we want the same thing that happened to vicks dogs when they didn’t perform, to happen to him. Don’t derail this thread with a bunch of statistics, or make it sugar coated. vick tortured and smashed the heads of dogs!! IN! plaleeezzzz don’t get side tracked! Now…..He,he…what about that plaxico???….Ha,ha…I rest my case.
Was very satisfy to find this website.I would like to thank you for this nice read!! I clearly enjoying every little bit of it and I have bookmarked to check out new stuff you post.
