CBS Miami Interviews Michael Vick After Humane Society speech to Kids
Video Clip (where Vick also pledges to continue making these speeches for the next 10 years)
Michael Vick spoke out against an illegal blood sport he once participated in to Miami’s children; Vick spoke to Overtown Youth Monday as part of the Humane Society’s campaign to end dog fighting.
Vick, now the quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles, served an 18-month sentence in jail after pleading guilty to federal dog fighting charges because of his involvement in a dog fighting ring.
Now, he’s on a mission to educate and warn youths against participating in dog fighting.
He said it was a series of bad choices that got him in trouble and the consequences that followed: "I stayed involved in things that I was never supposed to be involved in. That was my downfall."
Vick says nowadays his priority is helping children make better choices for themselves. These youths are about the same age Vick was when he got involved in dog fighting.
"I want to contribute; I never thought about doing this before I was incarcerated, before my situation happened. I want to turn lives around. I want to help kids believe that they can achieve and succeed."
When he played for the Falcons, Vick said, he would go home every week to fight dogs.
"For what reason, I don’t know to this day," he said in September. "Something so pointless."
Now he is a spokesman for the humane society, and goes around the country talking to children.

I guess if there was a camera on him 24/7 I might fall for it

Hey! I thought he wasn’t allowed to be around kids! What a bad influence. I wouldn’t let my kid see him. LMAO!!! this is a joke. He still dreams of dog fighting again someday. Probably in a few years when the spotlight is off of him he will go back to it.
@jp and @GA Dog Lover I do expect him to relapse myself. I suspect he is more like an addict who also happens to be a psychopath. He talks about discipline even in that interview/speech apparently. I do believe he probably has a lot of discipline, enough to get him to football practices and work outs through his adult life, enough discipline to become good enough to play in the NFL, and just barely enough discipline to stop fighting and torturing dogs
for a while.
He may have himself under control for now, but second chance or not, I do expect he will fall of the wagon eventually, if he hasn’t already.
Personally, I think these types of talks sponsored by the humane society aren’t getting the job done. If those kids were shown some pictures of the dogs during and after the fights, if they got to hear from some of the law enforcement folks that had to respond to the scene or any dog fighting scene and hear what type of sick and twisted things go on here, AND then give Michael Vick the podium this would be more balanced and those kids might learn just how ugly Michael Vick really is.
Instead, they see a NFL football player walked in to a gym wearing a suit that probably cost more than their parents house payment, talking about how he made some mistakes and is working to discipline himself to do better.
hollow bs
It is good that there are laws to protect our children here in the US.
Laws, and responsible, loving parenting, work together in protecting our children as much as possible, from pedophiles, the dangers of drugs and alcohol, accidents from sport and play, from bullies, from infections, virus’s, illnesses … the list goes on because we care…
So, why is a psychopath being promoted, surrounded by children in the name of education, in order to gain public acceptance and be catapulted back into extreme wealth and fame for himself?
Children would not look up in awe at this NFL football player if they knew, truly, what he had done and is capable of.
It would probably not be advisable for children to know the depth of his depravity.
Is this why he uses no visual aids or stories related his brutalization of dogs?
I understand, that wisely, many parents will not allow their children near Vick.
Where is his hands-on voluntary work promoting No Kill shelters and Spay & Neuter programs?
Perhaps the psychologists who evaluated him advised against him being with animals.
So far his atonement has been wooden, unenthusiastic and unconvincing ‘speeches’ about him making wrong choices because of poverty…
Hang on, we are not talking about a wrong choice here, or even a celebrity tantrum, but about a ‘man’ with an ability to inflict cruelty beyond most peoples’ imagination.
It is an insult to us law abiding adults, also raised in tough neighborhoods with little money and unattractive prospects, who were sickened by the thought of dog fighting which we knew to be wrong, disgusting and rightfully illegal.
Can it be true that Vick is now being given his own reality show?
I love football, but it’s spirit doesn’t mix with reinstating convicted felons. Keep them out of football.
Using our children to promote Vick is exploitation.
It seems that to kick a football well, is more important than it should be.
You said it much more eloquently than I was able to Susan.
This boycott has been as successful as the Los Angeles Clippers.
lol even though you never get it, glad to see you coming back again and again and again and again and again
at the end of the day your some sad little dweeb that sits at home that has nothing going for them in life so you complain about sad things . MIKE VICK (pbuh)is great on the field and is trying to fix his past but your stupid organisation loves dogs too much and wants to bum them time and time again, why dont you marry one?
‘We are responsible for each other…If men will not learn that lesson, then they will be taught in fire and blood and anguish.’
Learn from this you garry glitter of dogs
love from John Terry
Don’t you understand, Vick is ruining our country. His reign of terror is going to end all of civilization. I’m surprised Obama has yet to fix this huge issue, he is too busy talking about useless things like the economy, healthcare, and Haiti. But don’t worry this boycott is starting to affect the NFL, I hear the NFL had the worst ratings ever this year. At least my favorite sports curling and poker don’t have criminals in them, those sports are the face of America and our youth.
if you say so
great points John Terry, seems like we ARE being responsible for each other by working to stop people like Michael Vick who constantly FAIL to learn just that type of lesson. While Michael Vick’s partner was murdered in his own house, Michael Vick was still denying that he had anything to do with dog fighting. Now he’s trying to run a PR campaign to make more money, and USING kids to make it look like he is not the twisted psycho nut job that he is.
Regardless thanks for your comment! Every comment here helps get the message out to more people, even when the message is triggered by someone that only wants to see the small picture.
A chum has launched a blog that is running to inform individuals about animal cruelty, especially toward dogs and pups. He and some other supporters are committing a bunch of work into it. We get a lot of inspiration from sites like yours. It’s very tragic how some people abuse animals.
I think Vick is sorry he got caught, not sorry for the brutal, criminal acts of cruelty he committed. I have yet to see him show one speck of compassion or remorse towards those poor animals. He talks so much about how much he’s suffered – when he finally stops talking about his suffering & instead talks about how much suffering he caused he might be worth listening to. But not until then.
