Update 2-19-10 – The Footlocker ad has been removed from this article after we received word from one of our readers with a note from Footlocker stating:

"Generally, BET sells blocks of advertising time rather than media buys based on individual programs. This means that Foot Locker does not choose the program that is showing when our commercial airs. Please know that we would not intentionally advertise on programs that may be considered inappropriate or offensive to our consumers."

If their ads return to the Michael Vick Project we will be happy to return the ad for them. In general, we would like advertisers to be aware of BET’s unsavory business practice of filling advertisers spots without telling them where their ads or ad dollars are going. This does not mean that advertisers get a free pass. Just like Michael Vick was responsible for spending his money from sponsors on killing dogs and running illegal dog fighting rings, advertisers are responsible to insure that their brand and spots and ad money are not used to promote shows that would harm that brand or society. If they place a blind order of advertising and do not put controls on that order then any violent felon might be promoted onto a soap box and benefit financially for their crimes as would seem to be the case for Michael Vick on the Michael Vick Project.

Update – Several readers have indicated that Applebees has notified them via email that Applebees did not specifically seek to advertise on the Michael Vick Project on BET. We have not been able to independently confirm that ourselves with Applebees, we have not found any press releases from Applebees on Michael Vick or the Michael Vick Project nor any other messages from Applebees. We have not been able to confirm BET’s advertising practices, but in some of these cases it would appear that BET sort of dumped advertisers spots between breaks in the show when the advertisers did not specifically ‘prohibit their ads from running and funding the Michael Vick Project’. This would not appear to be a good business practice by BET, but at the same time, advertisers must watch how their funds are spent and where the money goes. As we learn more on this and other Michael Vick Project advertisers we will continue to keep you posted.

Update 2/19/10 – Some of our readers have been told by Sprint that they have pulled their advertising for the Michael Vick Project. Again this would seem to be a situation where BET placed Sprint ads in spots on the Michael Vick Project without Sprint knowing that the ads would be there, and Sprint failed to follow up and see where their ads were placed and if the placement was appropriate. We don’t have official confirmation from Sprint on this yet via a Press Release or other public statement but will keep our eye open. If you see such a public statement please leave us a comment with details and a location.

Sponsors that STOPPED Advertising on the Michael Vick Project television show due to caring people like yourself

2/15/10 Update: Dave and Busters announced on Twitter that they run general advertising on BET and had tightened their advertising guidelines to exclude the Michael Vick Project. We have been unable to find any official Press Release and are relying on their twitter update on this issue.

2/4/10 Update: Nivea ended their commercial sponsorship of the show after
being inundated with customer e-mails complaining about their support of the
program.

2/5/10 Update: Pizza Hut issued a press release informing the public that
they asked BET to end their commercial support of the show.

2/5/10 Update: Denny’s Restaurant contacted BET and ended their support
after receiving e-mails from concerned customers expressing their opposition
to the show.

2/6/10 Update: L’Oreal issued a press release that they have terminated
their support of the Michael Vick "Reality" Show and apologized for
offending L’Oreal customers.

2/8/10 Update: Nationwide Insurance issued a press release announcing that
they asked BET to pull their ads from the Michael Vick Reality Show and that
they do not support the program and do not wish to have any association with
it.

(I will DVR the next episode and FF to the commercials to confirm these
advertisers’ commitments and identify any new advertisers who may have
filled their shoes.)

If Vick hadn’t killed dogs, he would never have this show. He’s making money
off his killing spree. He recently said the reason for the show is to clear
his family name. He also said that he will not speak about dog fighting
anymore after the show. When Vick said he was going to dedicate his life to
speaking out against dog fighting, apparently he meant he would do it twice
per month for a year until people forgot about it and it was safe for him to
be rich and famous again and profit from his crimes. He did a masterful job
of using the HSUS to help him re-enter society. He was never sincere. He
still thinks he’s a victim as evidenced by his arrogant and callous remarks
after being nominated for the Ed Block Courage Award:

"I’ve overcome a lot, more than probably one single individual can handle or
bear," Vick said. "You ask certain people to walk through my shoes, they
probably couldn’t do. Probably 95 percent of the people in this world
because nobody had to endure what I’ve been through, situations I’ve been
put in…"

Some people argue "everyone deserves a second chance…it’s time to move on"
and "everyone makes mistakes". Vick did not make a mistake; it was a
conscious and calculated decision that he knew was wrong. He is diabolical,
transparent, and evil. There is no cure for evil. He doesn’t deserve a
second chance for his heinous and unspeakable crimes against animals. Those
of us who speak for animals will not "move on" as Vick is emblematic of a
larger problem in a society that shows disregard for the welfare of animals
and believes lenient sentences and fines equate to justice. They do not.
If people want to idolize this sadistic killer, cheer for him from the
stands and wear his jersey, they can do it. We draw the line with a reality
show that allows him to profit from his felonies. Let us send a clear
message — if you brutalize helpless animals, you will not be accepted back
into society and return to fame and wealth without opposition. Our silence
allows the opposite message to be sent. Complacency breeds acceptance.
Acceptance leads to continued violence against animals. We do not have to
accept things as they are and we will not.

Please help us send a message to the shameless sponsors of this show that we
will boycott their products until they end their support of the program.

Thank you.

On behalf of the dogs Michael Vick fought, kicked, shot, hung, electrocuted,
drowned, and tortured.

Maybe in Michael Vick’s old world it was cool for his dogs to get so worked up they frothed at the mouth, but even Michael Vick seems to want to present a new side. According to all accounts so far, he hasn’t flown the bird at fans nor protesters. He hasn’t attacked anyone, hit anyone, bit anyone or passed on viral diseases across the border. By that alone, he would ‘appear’ to be a new man.

I still don’t think he should be in the NFL, not because of who he is today, but because of what he has done in the past, what he represents with a lifetime achievement of mostly criminal behavior during his previous stint in the NFL. One of the reasons why I think his past should be a measure of whether or not he is in the NFL today, is due to the fact that he does influence people.

Case in point

His fans and supporters in Atlanta went out and spit on dog fighting protesters that want Michael Vick and the NFL to add dog fighting and cockfighting to the list of banned activities for ALL NFL players. Michael Vick has no authority over the NFL, but he IS the poster child for dog fighting promoters IN the NFL. Like it or not, his name, image and number 7, will forever be associated with dog fighting, BECAUSE he spent many many years running a dog fighting ring paid for with NFL money. (his current problem not anyone else’s).

His past activity seems to inspire his own former Atlanta fans, people that might have been Falcons fans at one time, but now rally against their own home team for any team that Michael Vick might be able to find work with these days. His disregard for laws against dog fighting, could possibly be a major influence in his fan boys and girls who would completely disregard the law themselves and assault people in Atlanta, showing just how nasty southern hospitality can be.

Welcome to Atlanta, where we will spit in your face if we disagree with you!

Sorry, but that is not the Atlanta motto. Even Michael Vick has enough composure these days not to go spitting on people. That goes to show just how deep the damage is that he caused. Even if he has moved on beyond the criminal that he was (and I’d hazard to suspect that he is still as sociopathic as he used to be, just more careful), but giving him the benefit of the doubt for the sake of argument, if he is no longer a criminal, no longer acting like a criminal, the damage he did when he was a criminal and acted the part, has in Atlanta and probably in many other areas, inspired too many people to engage in criminal activities as well.

This IS why, it will take Michael Vick, years and decades to begin to repair the damage he has done. He has negatively impacted and inspired people to be criminals, to engage in criminal activities, to disregard the safety of others, to harm others, and to do so in the name of Michael Vick.

Pro Animal/Anti Vick protect Sunday 10/11 at 11th & Pattison: 11am – 1:30 pm *AND AT EVERY HOME GAME!*

Please join us in protesting the NFL, the Eagles and the hiring of Vick at the Eagles game at Franklin Financial Field on Sunday 10/11 at 11th & Pattison Avenue in South Philadelphia. Please bring signs and a thick skin. The media is portraying Vick as someone who simply "bankrolled a dog fighting operation" when in fact he killed numerous dogs himself. Please join fellow animal lovers and let our voices be heard and the facts be known. Hope to see you on Sunday. Thanks for caring.

1 Citizens Bank Way
Philadelphia, PA 19101

TIP ABOUT PARKING: Don’t put a penny into the pockets of the Eagles by parking in one of the pay lots. You can park on Broad Street north of the CVS (in the residential neighborhood). It’s a bit of a hike, but worth it to save $20.00 or $25.00.

There are many ways to change a bad system. Most people recognize that following the money and going after the money is the most effective way to convince a group to change their ways. Your average person typically does not have the financial means to go after a large corporation or a celebrity worth millions of dollars. However, depending on the type of illegal activity, the IRS can level that playing field and might offer you a reward based on the percentage they seize.

The IRS has issued a bulletin to help identify just how much might be awarded to a person if they can provide evidence that helps the IRS win a tax battle against a suspect. The bulletin is titled Claims Submitted to the IRS Whistleblower Office Under Section 7623, and they even have an official form for you to use to submit your claim, Its called Form 211 (see PDF) and I have used it myself many times in the past.

Update – Just for the record, I used this to turn in people working for organized crime in China where they were producing large quantities of consumer electronics that were being used to create IED’s in Iraq. Weirdly, I’ve gotten several emails from people that think that turning in people that don’t pay their fair share of taxes (like the chinese mafia or dog fighting ring leaders) is a bad thing.
Just so those of you that think this is a bad thing understand, if you want to support the Chinese mafia or dog fighters, I’d just as soon not have you subscribe anyway. It will actually make me feel better if you unsubscribe. Income tax evaders and money launderers suck!

On a similar note, for those of you that think ‘we’ should do something more important with our time, consider that this was something very important with my time that I am involved with in addition to this campaign.

Here’s how it works:

Let’s say that you have information about how much money someone received illegally, possibly through illegal gambling for example, or you know how much money someone spent on illegal gambling activities that they wrote off as a different type of expense,

You could share that information with the IRS providing the evidence that you have using Form 211

If the total back taxes, plus penalties and interest (and the IRS charges massive penalties and interest so this can add up quickly) totals up over $2,000,000

You may be eligible for a reward of up to 10%.

If the amount is less than $2 million the percentage amount of the award is pretty much at the discretion of the IRS

But more importantly, the IRS now has the information to go after a person that has essentially cheated on their taxes, cheated other taxpayers and with your information they can get that lost tax money back

They might even be able to prosecute the tax cheat for income tax evasion or money laundering.

This type of tactic has been used for decades by prosecutors, who have successfully bankrupted and often times put in jail people including Al Capone to the KKK to organized criminals.

Protesters are just starting to realize that the information and facts they gain through their own research and investigation and sometimes freedom of information act evidence, that they can then do some of the analysis on that information in total and tip off the IRS.

How the IRS can help remove Violent Felons from the NFL

Many people that engage in illegal activities of a violent nature that are also celebrities often times spend a lot of money to cover up their crimes. This is a crime also, but the spending of the money, leaves a trail, lets call it smoke.

If you can find bread crumbs from that trail, you can start to put together the big picture. From the smoke trail, you might be able to determine the size of the fire, even if you can figure out exactly what type of fire it is. Depending on how that money was spent, who was paid and more importantly how it was or more often WAS NOT reported to the IRS can be used by the IRS to prosecute for unpaid taxes.

In the NFL, a number of high profile athletes have gotten into a significant amount of serious trouble related to violence. If they participated in a cover up, if their team participated in a cover up, if the NFL participated in a cover up or if the Union participated in a cover up for or with that athlete, the money trail can be the key to unlocking the crime, but more importantly bringing down the corrupt members of the organization.

We can gather some of that information, we can provide it to the IRS through Form 211, and we can help the IRS take action. Essentially, this can make it too expensive and difficult for these groups to protect criminal actions and not pay their taxes. It can also put them in jail. Plus, this can open the door on investigations that have grown cold due to lack of cooperation or an unwillingness to proceed on the part of prosecutors or others because they have been bribed by members of the group.

Each tax prosecution, each claim collected by the IRS adds more evidence to the case for the NFL to denounce violent criminals and step aside from protecting violent criminals. The legal cost, the financial liability, the liability on the brand of the NFL and its teams, would be so high that they would have to take actions to end their support of violent criminals and set stiff penalties for members of the NFL and its teams, stating that if someone commits a violent crime, they are out for life.

Using Tax Prosecutions to Remove Current Violent Felons in the NFL

This tactic could even be used for existing violent felons in the NFL. In many of the high profile cases of people that have committed violent crimes in the NFL, there were a number of people involved, often times both an entourage as well as possibly people from the team that knew of the crimes or activities.

These people all have information about what happened. Some of them may have even suffered financially due to the crimes, or might be more likely to share information after the fact about the incident. Other criminals that had dealings with criminals in the NFL might also be willing to share information about how much money they might have lost gambling with NFL criminals for example. Identifying this money, the amount of this money, whether it was reported correctly or not, could all be very useful for the IRS in making a case against tax cheats who also happen to be violent felons.

Just wanted to quickly share this protest sign from a fairly balanced article on the LA Times Blog, more of an article in pictures, from Michael Vick’s water testing re-entry into the NFL preseason yesterday.

The New York Times didn’t have a half bad article either. In general most main stream journalists whether they cover sports or not, seem to be embracing the opportunity to write the come back story of Michael Vick, regardless of how morally bankrupt it is to paint that story through rose colored glasses. In fairness, we are in a recession, and the newspapers and reporters are struggling to keep their business and jobs. They and their editors probably see more financial legs in a story week after week where Michael Vick gets a mention as opposed to a story where Michael Vick goes out into the world and does something more worth while.

They were quick to help knock him down in 2007, not because what he did was terribly detestable and very sick, but because it made good business for 24 hours news coverage during the cycles at the time. These days there is no news cycle about a man that gets out of prison, but there’s lots of news cycles to be spun and sold about the most notorious animal abuser in the country getting out of prison, rejoining the national felons league and picking up a fat contract all in the course of a summer.

Since the NFL and especially the Philadelphia Eagles made the unfortunate decision to allow Michael Vick back into the NFL where he will likely play his first football game in over 2 years the day after National Dog Day, we have received some novel examples of ways to protest, boycott and share our displeasure with the NFL.

We would like to open a dialogue with everyone and brainstorm on ways to do this better, and more effectively. We want to cover the spectrum of potential ways to achieve our goal of removing violent felons from a fan money funded NFL. That said, we do not want to cause or inflict violence or harm on any person, nor do we want to put potential fans in harms ways by their potential protest actions. So first lets have a brainstorm on the potential ways of boycotting the NFL and or the Philadelphia Eagles.

Different people have different levels of commitment for this cause. Some of use are engaging in a total boycott of everything related to the NFL or that sponsors the NFL. Others are boycotting the Philadelphia Eagles and or their sponsors. Some are simply boycotting anything related to the violent felons still playing in the NFL today.

We want to identify all the potential ways of maximizing our efforts across that entire spectrum so that anyone that wants to participate can do so in a way that fits in with their own perspective and goals.

To kick things off here are 9 ways to boycott or protest Michael Vick & Violent Felons in the NFL

The easiest thing you can do is to leave your comments here on SackVick and other similar sites. Each comment you make generates a new web page, which help fills up the internet a little bit more with more perspective and views on fans against felons in the NFL.

If you have a site of your own, link to our site or to an article. Drop me a comment with a link to your site pointing at SackVick and I will add you to one of our blogrolls of animal loving sites, fans against felons or general supporters.

Our site has been around for over 2 years and we are heavily indexed across the internet but every little bit helps and if we can help you in return for your support with a link back, we’re more than happy to reciprocate.

Include a badge on your site or in a blog article if you like Here are some different sizes

Contact sponsors of the NFL and The Eagles and call for them to remove their sponsorship until violent felons are removed

contact them by mail

contact them by email

contact them by twitter and other social networks

contact them by communications channels,

contact them on blogs

contact them by employee email

Write blog articles highlighting the transgressions of felons and where possible putting sponsor logos or products next to pictures of the crimes

Most sponsors that sponsor the Eagles do not want to see their products next to images like those of Michael Vick’s dogs after he fought them, brutalized them or killed them

If they don’t want their brand next to images like these, then they need to remove their sponsorship or experience the synergy of their sponsorship of a brand such as the brand that is Michael Vick for example

Sports bars across the country both in and out of Philadelphia have stopped serving miller and coors products. Many people at first see this as something that is bad for business, but today there are hundreds of other beer options out there, especially considering micro brews which can be more profitable even for a bar owner to serve. Boycotting these Eagles sponsored products can be good for raising attention, good for getting free press, and good for the bottom line

Some sports bars are also refusing to play any game with the Philadelphia Eagles in their establishment. This could be tougher on the bottom line, but will sure get people in the bar talking about the situation. Sometimes its better for a bar to have its patrons talking (and drinking) than it is for them to be passively sitting on a bar stool watching a game. That goes double if the bar finds some way to flip that attention towards some other activity.

Philadelphia Season ticket holders are planning to engage in a tailgate protest at Philadelphia games. They will show up with their tickets, park and tailgate and protest Michael Vick. The coup in this effort is that they are going to sell their tickets to people from the opposing team, hoping to displace the home field advantage for the Philadelphia Eagles until Michael Vick is removed from the team.

On a personal level, don’t watch any Eagles games, or escalate that to not watching any Fox broadcast NFC East telecasts, or if you are in it all the way, don’t watch any NFL games at all this season!

If you do watch games, take note of the companies that are running commercials during Eagles games and send them a protest letter, email, etc .

Protest on National Dog Day – If you are in the Philadelphia area, protest the Eagles on Wednesday August 26th – National Dog Day and on Thursday August 27th, the first day that Michael Vick is likely to play again in the NFL. If you are at the game don’t wear any Eagles colors, bring protest signs and signs that include images of the dogs that Michael Vick fought or killed. If you do not go into the game, bring your dogs to protest the event outside. Howl and wail like a dog in pain every time the Eagles have possession of the ball.

What would you add to this list . . . .

We want to hear from these companies and find out if they want to see Michael Vick playing in the NFL on the team that they sponsor.

The Eagles want to hear from them too! They encourage their premium service suite holders to let the Eagles know how they are doing. So if you are a premium service suite customer, why don’t you let the Eagles know what you think of Michael Vick’s recent addition on your next comment card.

As a Suiteholder, you are a valuable part of the Eagles family. A great deal of our success, both on and off the field, depends upon you. Your continued support and passion for the Eagles help us as we strive to bring a world championship to the city of Philadelphia.

Our goal is to exceed your every expectation as we move forward together. We encourage you to provide us with feedback as often as possible in order that we may continue to serve you in the manner that best suits your status as a premium customer. Toward that end we have placed comment cards in each Suite and your Personal Service Representative will contact you through our Post-Game Wrap Up after every event. We want to hear from you — about those things that meet with your satisfaction and about how we can better serve you. source http://www.philadelphiaeagles.com/team/premiumservices/suiteholder/SuiteAmenitites.asp

Its one thing for companies to purchase suites from the Eagles for business but another to take their kids to a game to cheer for an ex-felon guilty of torturing and killing dogs. So we would also like to know if Suite Holders will continue to take their kids and families to the game.

There is one group that uses the Philadelphia boxholder suites that might see a direct increase in business from Michael Vick’s move to Philadelphia . . . .

Go Philadelphia Lawyers!

What the Philadelphia Eagles were thinking when they signed Michael Vick up, we may never know, but we don’t have to support a bad decision with our money. Boycott the Philadelphia Eagles and any game that features Michael Vick or other violent ex-convicts.
