A few hours ago (Sunday evening 2-28) I watched last weeks episode of the Michael Vick Project. It was sick, and I’m not saying that in a dog lover kind of way, not saying it in what the detractors of this site would claim is a dogs over humans kind of way, not saying it just because I’ve been writing on this site since Michael Vick first started denying that he fought dogs or led a band of merry animal killers.

It was sick because Michael Vick is working to restore himself from his ‘Fall from Grace’ by literally revisiting the scene of the crime and putting hands on the weapons he used to commit the crime. Oh and he is one of the producers of the TV vehicle broadcast by BET, so he is not only profiting from this sick venture directly, but also indirectly through his sports career.

This show fully embodied why Michael Vick should not be on a reality TV show, and why he should not have a spotlight in the NFL.

Yes he should have a second chance in life and in a career, but not a second chance thrown back into his old life and career, where he damaged not only his own grace, but the real lives of too many real people, oh and he killed dogs too, tortured them, fought them and worse.

Watching this show, you will be struck by many terrible images, each getting worse and worse as the show proceeds. It starts off in a benign fashion with Michael starting to speak to another group of kids at an extremely troubled high school Germantown High School at the request of the local chapter of the NAACP. Now, many people have been quick to criticize the Humane Society for using a criminal to be their poster child for stopping the crime, but the NAACP is no better, as they push Michael Vick in front of kids as a role model who made a mistake and learned his lesson 2 months after getting out of prison.

I personally don’t believe in contrition, I don’t think Michael Vick should grovel and beg or anything like that, but I also don’t think that 2 months after he got out of prison he was suddenly qualified to go speak to kids. For one thing, his public speaking skills are terrible, and I don’t mean bad, or unprofessional, or stiff, etc, they are just plain terrible. He does ‘sound’ like he is being sincere and that might possibly get through to kids, but in today’s world, kids are completely immersed in an environment where only the best communicators on the planet can actually reach them and then its usually only through music or maybe tv. To drop a chump straight out of prison in front of them and then listen to him give a speech that belongs in a sixth grade class stumbling through a poorly rehearsed book report like style is not only painful, but definitely not setting a good example. Much worse, its probably not getting through at all.

Michael Vick, if you want to help kids avoid your mistakes, go take some serious public speaking classes and then practice your public speaking on a less susceptible audience where the stakes aren’t so high. Don’t rebuild your career on the grace of kids as you step on their heads to get back on top in the NFL.

BUT THAT’S ONLY THE START OF THIS ATTROCITY OF A SHOW

Soon Michael Vick takes us on an SUV ride with his personal assistant (who apparently knew better and tried to get Vick to stop dog fighting, but really, who listens to their secretary? I’m sure those kids at Germantown High School don’t listen to their secretaries either). Now, the camera set up in the SUV is just awkward, and I only mention it because in this third show, all production quality is out the window and it only makes the true content that much harder to watch.

Vick is sitting in the back behind his secretary who is driving, with the invisible camera man in the front passenger seat, which all just adds to the presentation of Michael Vick above it all, rich and being chaufered around the Virginia country side on a jaunt to view his old dog killing grounds for the sake of the BET viewing audience.

They arrive at his old house, which no one will buy. Its been remodeled a bit and you get a sense that Vick doesn’t recognize much of the house at all any more, from its former bachelor pad days. It was apparently a boys party paradise, gee, I wonder why no family wants to buy it.

Vick eventually walks out back to the Bad Newz Kennels, the real kennels and the upstairs dog fighting ring in the upper floor of a shed/barn where the rug still smells of dog blood according to Vick. (Tip for home investors looking to flip a Michael Vick property, MAKE SURE YOU REMOVE THE BLOODY CARPET YOU MORONS!)

As Michael Vick ‘remembers’ all of the crimes he used to commit here, you do feel that he is sincere in thinking that he made a mistake, he wishes many times on tape that he had given the injured dogs to some caring family that would adopt them and care for them, instead of beating them to death, electrocuting them, drowning and hanging them etc.

Maybe it was cut out of the show, but he doesn’t really say he wishes he had never fought dogs, something he had done since he was apparently about 7 years old, took a break when he was 12, and then came back to it when he had some money and was drafted after stopping by a barber shop in his old neighborhood to talk to a guy that had a lot of pit bulls, but he didn’t know the guy fought them.

Frankly that part sounded like a lot of bull shit. I think he knew what he was doing when he went back to fight dogs again, and that is just another example of why I think he could fall off the wagon again, in the show he said, “we fought dogs like people sold drugs”. And like like drugs, I think he has an addiction for fighting dogs, if not an addiction for blood.

AND THEN IT GOT EVEN UGLIER

So Vick leaves the fighting barn loft area, gingerly stepping down the steps, walks outside and notices a 2 x 6 leaning against a building. Look there’s the beam we used to hang the dogs, he says.

Then Michael Vick walks over, grabs this wooden beam and holds it up against the two trees where it used to be nailed and describes how they used to hang dogs there (to kill them). You can almost visualize him not only hanging but beating and zapping them as if the poor dogs were a small heavy bag.

He walks by cages in and outside of buildings and I’m not saying dogs are like people, but I’ll be damned if the whole thing didn’t look like someone taking a tour of Auschwitz. Michael Vick’s crimes are a small thing compared to the atrocities committed in concentration camps under the orders of Hitler, or any of the t0o many death camps that have crept into too many societies, militaries, and governments around the world since. Some of those sick twisted psychos in Hitler’s day and since got their start somewhere and it might have been very similar to Michael Vick’s days working in the minor leagues of dog fighting before getting called up to even more evil someday, hopefully not.

But there was a reason why they did not have Hitler go tour through the concentration camps and talk about the crimes he ordered. There was a reason why Hitler didn’t walk on the mass graves of his victims and describe what he felt when he had them killed. Even if Hitler had been alive, and even if he had expressed remorse, a right thinking person would not put him on TV in a show that he produced and have him talk about his crimes so that he could regain ‘grace’ because THAT IS JUST SICK.

Even if a murderer is sorry for what they did, and they want to express that to the victims family, you don’t take them to the scene of the crime, put the murder weapon in their hand, and have them talk through what they did on their own TV show. BEYOND SICK.

BET is soooo wrong in giving Vick this platform that it is absolutely ridiculous. The NAACP made a mistake in having Vick speak to those kids in a troubled school, and the Humane Society made a smaller mistake in using Vick as a spokesperson against dog fighting, but BET and their remaining sponsors, which seems to consist largely of Warner Brothers movies, Dell.com, Lysol (which supposedly kills H1N1, can you say false advertising?) and Woolite, which wasn’t used to clean the dog fight blood out of Vick’s carpets have made the biggest mistake of all. Hell, even the NFL hasn’t screwed the pooch as bad, they gave Michael Vick a boat load of money again and his old job back (no harm no foul, sorry bout your luck Vick, welcome back and sure you can keep your number, please accept a few million as a token of our stupidity).

This show is just sick, the sponsors are crazy, BET is crazy and all of them together are making this world a very nasty and ugly place. Maybe if their business model fails, they can do some odd jobs for Michael Vick when he launches his next dog fighting ring on BET DEAD DOG SMACK DOWN.

Michael Vick or anyone at BET that still has some heart or soul left, pull the plug on this show. I don’t know what is worse, the torture of watching it or the terrible crime that is being committed encouraging kids to follow in Michael Vick’s footsteps, footsteps that just went back to the dog fighting ring on BET, broadcast around the world.

As he did plea, much of the witness testimony provided in the indictment was not used in a trial. That witness testimony was extremely negative and in many ways much uglier than the perfected statements that Michael Vick provided in the Statement of Facts.

Even with that legal wrangling, we feel that the Statement of Facts provided by Michael Vick are enough on their own to merit his permanent suspension from the NFL under the CBA.

Many people have indicated that Roger Goodell does not have the authority to prevent Michael Vick from playing in the NFL. After reviewing the CBA (its only a few hundred pages long), it would appear to me that the Commissioner does have this authority based on the CBA’s following sections (at a minimum I suspect there are more)

(view the CBA its about a 3.6 mb pdf file)

See Appendix C Section 15

Note this section states that any NFL player that knowingly associates with gamblers or gambling activity; . . . .then the Commissioner will have the right, but only after giving Player the opportunity for a hearing at which he may be represented by counsel of his choice, to fine Player in a reasonable amount; to suspend Player for a period certain or indefinitely; and/or to terminate this contract.

Furthermore, the NFL CBA seems to recognize that any player like Michael Vick has the power to damage the NFL if their conduct is not held up to an appropriate standard.

This clause does not link suspension or removal, but as it is part of the contract failure of a player to live up to this clause could make the contract voidable and therefore remove the player from the club or the league.

The CBA provides appendix G which lays out the standard Notice of Termination as follows

Since the NFL and especially the Philadelphia Eagles made the unfortunate decision to allow Michael Vick back into the NFL where he will likely play his first football game in over 2 years the day after National Dog Day, we have received some novel examples of ways to protest, boycott and share our displeasure with the NFL.

We would like to open a dialogue with everyone and brainstorm on ways to do this better, and more effectively. We want to cover the spectrum of potential ways to achieve our goal of removing violent felons from a fan money funded NFL. That said, we do not want to cause or inflict violence or harm on any person, nor do we want to put potential fans in harms ways by their potential protest actions. So first lets have a brainstorm on the potential ways of boycotting the NFL and or the Philadelphia Eagles.

Different people have different levels of commitment for this cause. Some of use are engaging in a total boycott of everything related to the NFL or that sponsors the NFL. Others are boycotting the Philadelphia Eagles and or their sponsors. Some are simply boycotting anything related to the violent felons still playing in the NFL today.

We want to identify all the potential ways of maximizing our efforts across that entire spectrum so that anyone that wants to participate can do so in a way that fits in with their own perspective and goals.

To kick things off here are 9 ways to boycott or protest Michael Vick & Violent Felons in the NFL

The easiest thing you can do is to leave your comments here on SackVick and other similar sites. Each comment you make generates a new web page, which help fills up the internet a little bit more with more perspective and views on fans against felons in the NFL.

If you have a site of your own, link to our site or to an article. Drop me a comment with a link to your site pointing at SackVick and I will add you to one of our blogrolls of animal loving sites, fans against felons or general supporters.

Our site has been around for over 2 years and we are heavily indexed across the internet but every little bit helps and if we can help you in return for your support with a link back, we’re more than happy to reciprocate.

Include a badge on your site or in a blog article if you like Here are some different sizes

Contact sponsors of the NFL and The Eagles and call for them to remove their sponsorship until violent felons are removed

contact them by mail

contact them by email

contact them by twitter and other social networks

contact them by communications channels,

contact them on blogs

contact them by employee email

Write blog articles highlighting the transgressions of felons and where possible putting sponsor logos or products next to pictures of the crimes

Most sponsors that sponsor the Eagles do not want to see their products next to images like those of Michael Vick’s dogs after he fought them, brutalized them or killed them

If they don’t want their brand next to images like these, then they need to remove their sponsorship or experience the synergy of their sponsorship of a brand such as the brand that is Michael Vick for example

Sports bars across the country both in and out of Philadelphia have stopped serving miller and coors products. Many people at first see this as something that is bad for business, but today there are hundreds of other beer options out there, especially considering micro brews which can be more profitable even for a bar owner to serve. Boycotting these Eagles sponsored products can be good for raising attention, good for getting free press, and good for the bottom line

Some sports bars are also refusing to play any game with the Philadelphia Eagles in their establishment. This could be tougher on the bottom line, but will sure get people in the bar talking about the situation. Sometimes its better for a bar to have its patrons talking (and drinking) than it is for them to be passively sitting on a bar stool watching a game. That goes double if the bar finds some way to flip that attention towards some other activity.

Philadelphia Season ticket holders are planning to engage in a tailgate protest at Philadelphia games. They will show up with their tickets, park and tailgate and protest Michael Vick. The coup in this effort is that they are going to sell their tickets to people from the opposing team, hoping to displace the home field advantage for the Philadelphia Eagles until Michael Vick is removed from the team.

On a personal level, don’t watch any Eagles games, or escalate that to not watching any Fox broadcast NFC East telecasts, or if you are in it all the way, don’t watch any NFL games at all this season!

If you do watch games, take note of the companies that are running commercials during Eagles games and send them a protest letter, email, etc .

Protest on National Dog Day – If you are in the Philadelphia area, protest the Eagles on Wednesday August 26th – National Dog Day and on Thursday August 27th, the first day that Michael Vick is likely to play again in the NFL. If you are at the game don’t wear any Eagles colors, bring protest signs and signs that include images of the dogs that Michael Vick fought or killed. If you do not go into the game, bring your dogs to protest the event outside. Howl and wail like a dog in pain every time the Eagles have possession of the ball.

What would you add to this list . . . .

Michael Vick’s mentor, Tony Dungy, scolded the Eagles quarterback for drinking in public after the New York Post revealed he was drinking Grey Goose and pineapple juice in a Philadelphia airport bar. "Michael, you can’t do that," Dungy told Vick, via SI.com’s Peter King. Eagles spokesman Derek Boyko told the Philadelphia Inquirer that drinking alcohol is "not in conflict with terms of (Vick’s) probation or reinstatement with the NFL." Dungy relayed to King that even though alcohol may not be completely banned, he must not present a negative image. Said King, "He can’t give the media or the public any ammunition to suggest he isn’t doing everything he can to live a clean life and devote himself totally to football.

Tony Dungy scolds Michael Vick for public alcohol consumption

The real problem is that Michael Vick was allowed back into the NFL at all. Tony Dungy and Roger Goodell have both been fooled by an extraordinarily practiced liar. We do not have to take issue with the idea that Michael Vick is keeping his mind on his money with a little Grey Goose, but we do take issue with the source of that money, NFL fan money that is.

If the NFL had instituted a policy that prevented violent criminals from playing permanently, then people like Roger Goodell and Tony Dungy would have been protected from this type of deceit. That is why a policy change is in order and that is why policy is used to protect large organizations from the weaknesses of individuals, especially those with 6+ years of experience subverting that organization.

Wake up Tony Dungy, wake up Roger Goodell, the NFL needs to be changed.

It might be possible to reform an evil person, but expecting them to reform into a saint, into a marketable hero is a travesty.

Everyone can agree that Michael Vick is sick, but its becoming increasingly clear that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is either as sick, maybe even more. Michael Vick admitted his guilt to killing dogs with his bare hands, torturing them, running illegal gambling rings bringing more people into a criminal lifestyle and setting and overall terrible example for kids.

Roger Goodell is possibly worse. He’s like the kingpin drug pusher of the NFL enabling violent felons from Christian Peter – sexual assault, Lawrence Phillips – violent domestic abuse, Leonard Little – killed a woman with a car, Jamal Lewis- drugs, Ray Lewis, obstruction of justice in a murder case, Michael Vick, Tank Johnson, Pac-Man Jones, Donte Stallworth, manslaughter, Plaxico Burress almost shot a bar tender, did shoot himself, lied about it.

The NFL needs a rule that prevents people convicted of violent crimes from playing in the league. That’s it, end of story, one strike and you are out permanently. But instead Roger Goodell promotes criminal behavior by not providing any substantive penalty. Kill some dogs, kill a person, ‘OK well you are going to miss a few games, but we’ll let you come back and make millions of dollars after you sit on the bench for a while.’

That’s the problem with Roger Goodell, he thinks that benching a player and then providing them a financial reward after benching them for committing a violent crime is going to do anything to prevent other players from engaging in violent behavior. That’s not a deterrent. Its almost a reward!

But of course, that is not enough for Roger Goodell, he not only wants to provide financial rewards for criminal behavior, he wants to make a buck off of it, while laughing at the victims. Below you can see what the NFL is offering on their website today (August 21, 2009) after Michael Vick was convicted of dog fighting, after Roger Goodell allowed him back into the NFL, after The Eagles hired Michael Vick for $6.8 million. The NFL.com is selling Jerseys on their website with Michael Vick’s name on it FOR DOGS!

What’s next Roger Goodell? Are you going to sell NFL bumper stickers saying, “NFL Players don’t brake for people in intersections” or sell thongs to rape victims with an NFL logo above the words saying “You were just asking for it” or will the NFL sell brass knuckles online with the engraving, “Women Don’t Back Talk NFL Players!”

Seriously, Roger Goodell, you are sick and twisted and part of the problem. If you can’t take charge of the NFL and turn it into a decent place again, your time is long over due to leave.
